Hey fellow dakka-ites. Im a new Chaos player and have had some pretty good luck against my friends orks but ever since the new ork codex came out I havent won a game. Im not looking for a cheese list to win every time but just something to give me a fighting chance or win some times. He usually plays a cross between mech and horde. On their own I have to problem with them. But against an army with a lot of both I cant seem to get anything right. Any tips?

It's hard to say, Chaos kinda has their issues until they get a beefed Codex. With his Mek based army, what baddies is he bringing? If he brings Kanz, you shouldn't have too much issue popping those. Obliterators usually wrecked me when I played my friend's Chaos army. They tended to pop my Kanz or wipe out a good chunk of Boyz. His Maulerfiends did quick work of my stuff as well.

keep him out of assault range, orks are typically dumb and bent on 1 thing, once you take that away from us we are lost

Mostly he ends up getting me in melee with his horde of boys and then bringing his deff dreads in to finish the job. I have a forgefiend which has varied success. What makes the maulerfiend better suited?

Thank you for the comments. Been good stuff to think about so far.

maulers when working in pairs can wreck whole squadrons of vehicles and dish out obscene hurt on squads that don't have power klaws. Their also surprisingly quick.

To beat him if probably take deffy and typhus. Typhus has plague wind and he turns cultists to zombies. Feed his ugliest boys zombies and as long as he's not using his supplement book you can stall them up for a very long time. Typhus also can unleash plague wind which is a very potent pieplate.

Deffy is expensive but he has a demolisher Cannon. Orks aren't perticularly tough so his pieplates will pretty much auto kill whatever they wound. Plus he cab cc about as well as a maulerfiend in a pinch.

Also bring anything that causes fear. Whenever orks fail pinning checks, morale checks, or fear tests they will wound themselves. Abusing this will seriously harm his model count.

Some things will be fearless and it's mostly his elite choices and hq's. If you see a nob leading a squad of boyz kill and then force a check. His army will slowly eat itself.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

Interesting, is the price tag on deffy worth the close combat or would a chaos vindicator with a battle cannon do better? Although it has shorter range it has strength 10 and ap 1 to chew through anything.

I've had good luck with space marines with flamers and the mark of nurgle/ banner of despair. Beating most of his boys in close combat, until the deff dread shows up.

So far I've liked all your different thoughts, each is a new way to play haha.

Deffdredds have always been a very nasty melee monster for the cost, but then there weakness comes in - theyre AV12 and slow. Pop those things immediately with your havocs or some other big gun. The explosion causes S4 hits to everything around it now too so it can take other things as well if you manage to roll a 6 with a lascannon pen. No matter who im facing an AV12 vehicle isnt that hard to pop unless its my devilfish with a 3+ jink.

Also for the record, Fear tests are not in the mob rule. Its Morale or Pinning tests and the Fear test is a Leadership not a Morale check. However its still potent since LD7 without a Bigmek or Warboss in the unit is very likely to fail and be sent into WS1 hell. Pretty much my only real beef about getting this chart instead of fearless, since in my experience thus far the chart has helped me more than its has hurt me, but im vulnerable to Fear now.

Awesome, all of you have been more than helpful. I really just have one question and I think its one of the last hurdles in my opponents list and that is Tank Bustas.

Any tips? Cause watching them wheel around on a truck killing marines with their ap3 while I focus on his walkers can really hurt.

Pop the trukk and you are golden. The tankbustas are wearing paper armor and literally you can kill them by looking at them wrong half the time. Once they are less mobile it shouldn't be any issue to just bolter them once and see them fall apart.

Tankbustas can never get access to anything except a 5+ FNP, and thats only if the ork player dedicates one of his/her HQ slots to them (unlikely).

Pop that trukk, even bolters can do this job if you got enough of them (6s to glance, 3HP to wreck it) and the tankbustas will be vulnerable to anything you shoot at them. Tshirt armor is nothing, only reason they'll survive your shooting is you didnt cause enough wounds to clear them off the table.

They should never survive more than 1 round of shooting unless the dice gods really hate you.

How do you guys deal with the new flashgitz? My everything just keeps getting mowed down either by a high volume of ap 1-3 shots or just a high volume of shots.

I think Orks are ripe for the Ahriman bomb. Check this thread out:

I've seen Psyhic Shriek ruin Orks... Ahriman can fire 3 of them on the same turn.

That is a scary tactic haha. Though I do fear the risk of placing too much cheese on the table.
