Okay, so this came up in a game last weekend, and maybe it was just a brainfart on our part but both my opponent and I got confused about this. I had an IC Psyker who left his squad and I wanted to cast Endurance on him. However the power says that it targets a friendly unit and not the Psyker himself. At first I thought it was still possible to target himself but when I looked at other powers some specifically stated it targets the Psyker and his unit, and some say only the Psyker, and others only friendly units. I started to feel that this wasn't the case, and decided not to cast it on myself since it didn't seem as if it was possible. So, my question is this: Can a Psyker use a power that says it targets a friendly unit on himself? Also, what if the Psyker has joined a squad? Can he cast that power on the squad he is in and enjoy that buff, or can he only cast those powers on squads he is not a part of.

Thanks for any clarifications!

Is the psyker friendly to himself? Yes.

When he is on his own, an IC is a unit. When he is joined to a unit, he becomes part of that unit (the IC "unit" cannot be targeted independently by shooting, for example).

Some examples: Warp Speed and Perfect Timing are powers that target the Psyker (note they do not use the term "Psyker unit"), and whilst Perfect Timing also affects the rest of the unit (if he is joined to one), Warp Speed only affect the Psyker him/herself. Notice the difference in the wording.

Endurance targets a single friendly unit within 24". This does not have to be the Psyker, but the Psyker is a friendly unit and he is most definitely within 24" of himself.

Thank you guys for your input! That's how I originally always played it, then I just started seeing the different wording of the powers on their cards and started second guessing myself. Good to know for when I play a game this afternoon.
