I play crimson slaughter and have a tournament coming up soon.
So im asking everyone to help me build a list. What are the best units to take in a competitive cs list.
I have hq sorted and going for minimal troops. Just would like others opinions on the better units in the dex.

Well, depending on your style of play, there are some good choices in the CSM codex. If you want to go the death star route, 5 Nurgle Spawns along with a Sorcerer and Nurgle Lord on bikes is the best thing the book has to offer.
If you want to go mechanized route, CSM in Rhinos is the obvious choice, along with Havocs and maybe Maulerfiends, depending on the number of points.
Now, if you want an all-around list, I would suggest LC Terminators in a LR with Dirge Caster and Auto/Las Preds and a couple Nurgle Oblits as a core built, since vehicles are now so much tougher and Oblits always rock . I don't suggest Heldrakes anymore since they have been nerfed to the ground.

I've always found Obliterators to be particularly useful, depending on the points limit either give them the MoN or MoTz and bring a sorcerer aiming for Cursed Earth.

I think that Daemon Princes with mark of Tzeentch or Nurgle are really competitive if you roll some nice Biomancy powers.
Noise Marines are very hard to deal with when a squad of 10 (w/ Blast Masters x 2)
Chaos Sorcerer w/ 2+ in front to tank and buff.
Cultists are an awesome cheap troop choice to hide away.
Heldrakes are still awesome.
Obliterators are your swiss army knife. Take mark of nurgle for some tough SOB's that handle any army well. I like to take 2 squads of 3.
Havocs are fun too, but i think the noise marines are a better buy for the ignores cover.
I dont play with CSM a ton but i play against it alot with Eldar and know whats nasty and evil.
Cheers mate! Hope it helps.

It is the rule in war, if ten times the enemy's strength, surround them; if five times, attack them; if double, be able to divide them; if equal, engage them; if fewer, be able to evade them; if weaker, be able to avoid them. - Sun Tzu |

Really depends on the size of the tourney. I think sometimes just taking scissors when everyone is expecting paper and rock works well, so some stuff that you wouldn't expect can be good

Units that makes the codex competitive?
MoN oblies
MoN Bikes
MoN Spawns
Noise/Plague Marines
Biker Sorcerer
Cultists
Heldrakes, not as good as they were but they can still pack some punch vs 3+sv armies
and that's pretty much it.
CSM have a big issue with leadership one bad roll can cost you the game if you fail the ld test, and inf you pay them the IoV for the fearless troop they become expensive and depending on the icon bearer to stay alive.
Chaos Lords are ok but slightly bested by their loyal counterparts
Warptalons, Possessed and Mutilators are pretty terrible
The dinobots might pack some punch with the new changes to the penetration table on 7th, however this makes them an ok unit.
Terminators are ok, if you pay the mark they increase a lot their points for a non-fearless unit that can easily run and lack access to the 3++ which makes loyal termies great.
Crimson Slaughter lists have great upgrade on the chosens with the character that gives them preferred enemy. Not as fluffy but a friend of mine runs a unit with Ahriman (could be replaces by Huron) as his warlord, since they have the infiltration warlord trait per default he outflanks/infiltrates a rhino with 6 plasmas with preferred enemy, and pretty much evaporates the biggest threat on the enemies army.
I would probably run some plasma chosens in rhino, MoN bikes, a MoN biker lord with the 2+ sv relic and PF/LC, some MoN spawns, cultists and oblies/autocannon havocs to support fire. Go fwd with the chosens/bikes/spawns while the cultists take objectives and the oblies and havocs weaken the other units on the field

With the CS book an auto include is the 2+ save Nurgle Bikelord with full unit of Nurgle Spawn.
Possessed as troops obviously. Which actual make Maulerfiends useful.
Daemon Princes want to be from the normal book now. A combat prince is no longer viable in a competitive setting. Meaning you'll want a burning brand summoning Prince.
Helldrakes aren't really top tier anymore. Reduced fire arc really hampers what was already a one dimensional unit.
Obliterators are as strong as always they need MoN though.
Plague Marines are always strong too.
Hellbrutes can be effective in the new formations. Forgefiends are ok now but 7th didn't help them as much as it did maulerfiends and Defilers.
Sorcerers are also good particularly Ahriman who can Psychic Shriek stuff off the planet. What points are you looking at and what type of list do you want to do.

I'm not a fan of mixing bikes with beasts, losing turboboost and fleet on a unit that is highly dependent on successful charges seems like tempting the dark gods or bad rolls on the charge or getting blown to smithereens with your 1D6 runs
