So I'm not looking for detailed info here, but was curious...how large of an opposing force would be needed to play against a player using a corvette?

My brother and I recently started playing and we're having a blast. He almost bought a corvette yesterday...he likes big stuff, but he asked me a question I couldn't answer...'Will you be able to play against it?'

As for imps, I have 5 ties and one advanced right now, maybe another ship or two this weekend to be picked up.

The ship itself is 90 points, but to use it effectively you need to add upgrades, for a total of about 120-150 points. But playing it without any escorts is probably going to be boring, the standard epic format is 300 points and I'd aim for at least 200.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I only played one Epic game and that was against the transport. My partner and I avoided it but were told afterwards that it's not actually all that durable and can go down with some determined firing.

Having said that, given what you have... it does seem like it wouldn't be the most interesting of games as it would be your fleet versus his one big ship.

I would probably wait to bulk up your forces first. If he really wants a larger ship, he can always go for the Falcon and you could get Slave I.

As stated fully equipped the Corvette will be 120-150. Monday last we played 400 points per side with each player controlling 200pts.

The game was slow and truthfully not much fun. We played on a 6'x5' table with 12 asteroids.

Forces were Corvette, 2 Bwings. 2 Es, 3 Xs, 4 Z95s

3 Lambdas, 4 Tie bombers, tie fighter. Phantom, 3 Tie interceptors, 6 Tie fighter swarm.

Plenty of missiles, torpedos, and heavy lasers.

Sounds good folks, thanks for all the input. I'll tell him to wait a while before picking it up!

Yeah, Epic games are fun, but I really only like them for the ability to field larger squadrons of fighters with occasional large ships in support. I think that frankly the huge ships are too far from what X-wing is about (awesome dog-fighting) to be any lasting fun. I would rather see 6-8 X-Wings on the field, instead of a couple of ships alongside a transport.

I have no real desire to play Epic games for the reasons AG said (maybe when the LGS starts a campaign), but I still bought a transport for the X-Wing Pilots and upgrades (and it's a cool as hell model for the desk) and the Corvette is next on my list for the same reasons. I already have at least one of everything else though, which I would recommend before buying before something you won't use often.
