Hello everyone! Sitting at work toying with lists, and this is one I rather liked. Please tell me what you think, anything you might switch, ideas, etc etc. I'm trying to build a decent list at this amount of points before I actually start my purchases. A litte about my meta. Opponents play Iron Hands w/ Blood Angel allies, MC Tyranids, Tau/Tau, Orks, and Eldar. My list is

Pedro Kantor
Sternguard x9 - sgt w/ powerfist and melta bombs, x4 combi grav, drop pod
Sternguard x10 - sgt w powerfist, x4 combi melta, drop pod
Tactical x10 - drop pod
Tactical x10 - drop pod
Stormtalon - TL AC, Skyhammer
Stormtalon - TL AC, Skyhammer
Ironclad Dread - Powerfist w/ heavy flamer, Seismic hamer w/ heavy flamer, drop pod
Centurion Dev Squad x4 - Omniscope, x4 Grav Cannon w/ LR Redeemer for transport
Knight Paladin
Knight Paladin

Total - 2998

Idea would be to combat squad every marine squad. Pedro rides with the 9 sternguard. Two tacts and Ironclad drop first, two squads of stern follow T2 hopefully. Land Raider brings the centurions up the middle, Storm Talons following behind, as well as Knights.

I myself have just started collecting Tau, and it seems that they're pretty dangerous deep-striking, so I'd just say to not leave your armour too undefended at the back as your opponent may drop something like a Farsight bomb and aim high strength low ap shots at all your rear armour.
Also watch out for units with interceptor as they can punish units arriving in drop pods.
Your dreadnought is potentially very vulnerable after it arrives because the flamers might not reach the enemy and it cannot assault the turn it arrives so be prepared to be cleaning up little pieces off the floor before you've even used it.

Overall it looks like a formidable list though, perhaps a little to reliant on toys but strong nonetheless

You're right. I've even considered just spamming sternguard and tactical marines in rhinos and drop pods with mostly combi grav, but a little combi metla mixed in as well, just to wipe out any existing bombs/armor my tau opponent could possibly think of taking, but i like having big toys in my army.

Grav sucks on nonrelentless platforms. Go with plasma unless you're on bikes.

I think the list is going to be lots of fun, and looks pretty thematic, and there's LOTS of toys on the field! I actually think at 3000 points though, you're going to have to really dedicate a lot to an alpha strike to make a big enough dent in the opponent for it to matter...like, 2 more sternguard pods worth. I think if you get this down to 2000 points, and still have the same amount of sternguard, it could be a really nice alpha strike list... but that extra 1000 points is going to be shooting back at them once they land.

For a 2000 point game, I'd convert the Cents to lascannon/missiles (for tank hunter) and take Coteaz to buff them (ignore cover and "I've been expecting you" are great additions to them) and drop the LR and a Knight. Then at 3000 I'd try to add 2 more full pods of Sternguard for an alpha strike.

Overall, the load-out of most of your units is nice: the stormtalons are good with skyhammers, the omniscope is good on the cents, 4 combis are good for sternguard (although i'd drop the melta bombs if taking a powerfist), I would also recommend Sentinls of Terra supplement for "close range bolter drill" to help the tac squads.
