Forgive me if I don't make much sense, it's 3am and I'm tired.

In the novel deamon world, there is a group of word bearer marines looking for something, I don't remember what. One of them apparently isn't an actual marine but has been acting like one for quite a long time. He's is very old and a very powerful. I remember it mentioning that he had once worn a suit of living armor and carried a gun that fired living ammo. He had a sentient ship parked in orbit for thousands of years. I don't remember it ever explaining who he was and even if he was good bad or neither. Anyone have any more information on this character?

I haven't read that book in a long time, but I'm sure it was full of vague unexplained events.

The characters name is Arguelon Veq and was a champion of Chaos. We was so old he created the maelstrom according to the story.

From the events in the book the Word Bearers are sent to track down a rogue sorcerer called Karnulon, who has likely been killed by Veq, who used Karnulons ship to return back to Torvendis so he can awaken The Last.

Daemonworld, one of my favourite, if not my favourite, 40k book of all time.

That is someones interpretation of it, one that I don't agree with having read the book a fair few times. It's true in a few regards but Veq being Karnulon is incorrect if you ask me.

There's a fantastic story in there called 'seven views on uhlguths passing'

It's very much like daemon world
