Im getting a forge world Keeper of Secrets soon, which is much larger than the GW model. Ill be mounting it on a large oval base like any other MC.

My question is does anyone feel like that's an 'advantage' and would you have a problem with it in a more 'competitive' game?

The rules do state that you need to base it "on the base supplied", so changing base size IS breaking the rules. It would need to be accepted by the TOs or your opponent, in any case. Which would also be true for a friendly game, and i doubt anyone would see an issue with it...

You might just be able to fit it on a 60mm base.
But really thos models are for representing the Gargantuan Daemon charaters (see Imperial Armour: Apocalypse)

Going UP in base size by a step is generally accepted, as while you can get more models in BTB, and have a touch more flexibility moving, it's also a larger target for blasts and templates, and is harder to deep-strike and move through gaps. It works out about the same, as long as the increase is reasonable.

And putting the FW Greater Daemons on 60mm bases is just asking for them to tip over. They are big models.

Yea, at 6.5 inches or so I feel it would look silly on anything smaller.

Just rule of cool it

Its an awesome model and deserves to have a proper base that wont tip over.

If all else fails bring a spare 60 to use as a stand in if some one gets pissy.

There's no 'depends on the situation' option in the poll.

In practice, most people won't mind you changing the base size so long as the base you use looks appropriate on the model.

I voted no because a larger base size can be advantageous (not as much as it used to be in 5th Ed) with reduced effect of blast weapons. However this is generally a bigger advantage in units and a disadvantage to single models. So whilst in the poll I voted no given the exact example I would not have a problem at all with that model on an oval base.

So I'd look at how you put the question in your poll because you may find lots of the "No"s are like mine.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

Now I want to mount a jeering grot on an oval base purely for the lulz.

Armageddon, Pry System, Armageddon Sector, Armageddon Sub-sector, Segmentum Solar.

Zarakynel should never be on any other base than the oval base for 40k. It cheapens her to be used as a lowly keeper of secrets. lol

I often find the rule of cool steps in and most people are ok with it as long as the base fits the model, I have a converted Shadowsun which I mistaking put on a 60mm (I thought it was 40mm) and I've only had one person um and ah about it, the model is simply too big to fit on the correct base and if people want me to make adjustments due to base or model size I do.

The results are actually pretty close, making the issue unclear.

If one is really worried over possible opponent concerns it is possible to stick the smaller base on the larger one, giving extra stability while still making it easy to measure to a smaller base if an opponent requests it.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
