Subject: Khawarij question

I recently purchased the Khawarij model despite its rules being a bit unpopular it seems. I plan on using him in my next game, but had a few questions about his special skill Super Jump.
I would like to know if he can "double jump" that is do super jump-superjump for a total of 8 inches of movement. The graphic on the wiki seems to show this is possible for horizontal movement and I would assume that also allows vertical. I would just like some confirmation though.
We all know what they say about assuming though!

Yes you can double jump for 8", it takes both short skills to do it. The model can jump in any direction and isn't limited to perfectly horizontal or vertical.

Yeah, it's basically the huge benefit of super jump. You can move your full move distance as a jump with no PH rolls required. It's what makes Tarik so deadly mobile with his Spitfire, he can get into good firing positions so easily.
It's a bit less useful on Khawarij, since they only get a 4-4 move, but it's still helpful. Their main downside is they only have a rifle. It's not a whole lot of good getting into a good firing position when all your firing is a basic rifle.

It is funny the example is of a Khawarij, no less and the answer is NO you can't (example B). You CAN fall the total of both your MOV value, but only jump up to your first MOV value (example C).

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

edit - I entirely misread your post :/ It appears that I've been playing it wrong. I've been playing it as though you combine the values. Reading the wiki, using Jump as the precedent, two Jumps constitute two separate jumps with two PH rolls, not one long jump. Since Super Jump lets you jump your full MOV without a PH roll, then no, Super Jump doesn't let you make one super long jump. It does, however, let you make two longer than normal jumps. I will have to correct this next time I play. To be fair, most of the time I've used two long jumps anyway, but I have on occasion used one super long jump. Also, the word jump is now completely bewildering me, as usual when I repeat a word a lot. Jump. it makes no sense.

Noir, it seems though that the graphic and text that goes with it says that you can use both values for one long super jump..
"C) The most complex situation. The Khawarij is at the edge of a 10 inches falling and he has several jumping options:
Spending both MOV values in a single Super-Jump he can..."
"If the model jumps 8" horizontal,"
"If the Khawarij felt suicidal jumping twice straight into the air..."
You will have to apologize that I did not see this on my initial reading yesterday morning of the rules text, seems that the examples outline how the skill can be used. That is that super-jump may be used to combine both MOV values for one long super jump. Yet this would appear to imply that this 8 inch movement (for the Khawarij) is only one short skill, I am not sure if that is what is intended though.

Loki, see what I replied to Noir, as I understand you I think you may have been playing it correctly? I think the problem with super-jump is that it isn't really a special "jump" in the sense of the short movement skill, despite it accomplishing vertical movement and horizontal movement in a similar fashion. As the rules wiki does not classify it as a special "jump", but rather a "special movement skill".
So the way I interpret super-jump is that it is not held down by the stipulations of "jump" that you mentioned such as requiring 2 "jumps" to accomplish the 8 inch movement, but allows the 8 inch movement as one "super jump".
And I agree with you! Too many jumps going on here!
I'll have to ask my friends how we will play this as I don't think the writers intended for an 8 inch cautious movement from "super-jump"?
EDIT: Nevermind, I realized that Cautious movement specifically stipulates the figure may not move more than its first movement value. So only 4in "cautious jumps" for the khawarij, but 6 inches for Tarik!
Maybe? Who knows...Hopefully that's cleaned up in the new edition!
Orrrr I bet more than likely I'm missing some key detail that would explain my question

Good spot! I stopped reading after the diagram on the wiki. That does indeed state that it can be combined into one super long jump. The wiki even has this line - "Spending both MOV values in a single Super-Jump he can:".
Super Tarik lives on!

To summarise, SJ lets the model jump it's first MOV value into the air in any direction, then carry on jumping it's second MOV value with a second move skill.
So a Khawarij can move-move 8" through the air (and can fall 8" at the end without taking any damage) while Tarik can move-move 10".
