Hey guys I have a question and I want to know what the thoughts of the community are. I LOVE DARK ANGELS but I hate that theybdont have access to some of the units the vanilla space marines get(centurions, stormravens, etc.) So I was thinking of getting the models painting them and use them in games as dark angels. I would still follow the allies rules and stuff but they'll just be "dark angels".

What would your opinion on that be if you were to play a pick up game with someone that did that.

And as far as an allied detachment do they still get chapter tactics or no?

You could though id be careful of markings and figuring out a way to distinguish between allies, as chapter tactics might come into play eventually.

As long as it is clear what Marine belongs to what, it shouldnt matter.

I think there a very few instance where being CA matters (i think that cypher book perhaps)

Edit: They get Chapter tactics. If anything make the second set of greens some kinda strange successor chapter that as a similar style to DA but just different enough that you can tell during game.

Yea I'll be painting the base rim different. But besides the tc squads it'll be just the units dark angels don't get

No one would have a problem with a force of dark angels using the Space Marine codex. It's if you then want to ally in identically painted marines from a different codex that it becomes problematic, but use your common sense in this regard.

He wants primary DA (green) and C:SM Allies (in green) so he can use things he normally doesn't have access too like the storm guppy and flying brick while having 1 painted coherent army.

Just paint up the Dark Angels from one battle company and paint the others from another. I've seen people ally 2nd company and 4th company Ultramarines this way.

That should be sufficient to distinguish allies. The main consideration is that your opponent can see at a glance what faction they belong to.
