Have some Tau that have been sitting around forever

12 magnetized Crisis Suits
10 Firewarriors
Lots? of drones (gun I think)
2 devil fish one is destined for terrain though.
2 broken broadsides (old kind)

I was thinking the next step should be that big tau box w 6 broadsides and the riptide? Maybe a hammerhead? More firewarriors? Named HQs? I dunno

Sub question: the most common loadout w crisis suits is.....

I strongly recommend sky rays great aa and come with 2 marklight
With suit load out it really depends on your list if you do get the broadside box then two plasma and a couple of fusions but the best thing is use the suits to deal with anything that could threaten your list

The broadside+riptide pack is a solid upgrade. Unless you go farsight enclave, you will need some more fire warriors and/or kroot to have troops. An ethereal is never a bad idea, same with the skyray.

Dual fusion and dual plasma see a lot of action. If your going farsight enclave, the dual cannon is not bad. Cannon+CIB is decent, dual missile is not bad either...

You need atleast one more box of firewarriors. So you can run the minimum 2 squads of 6 or so.

Forget the firewarriors, just play enclaves they're better anyway.

And yes, Fire Support Cadre is one of the best formations available so it would be a solid upgrade.

Got to disagree about the Enclave. However, totally agree on the Fire Support cadre, expensive both in points and cash, but very effective.

Skyrays are never a bad choice. I usually bring one every game, but i dont fret over it if i need to cut it for points.

I wouldnt get that box for 6 broadsides and a riptide if i were you. Not only is that expensive as hell cost-wise but points-wise as well. I dont think you should ever need more than 3 broadsides unless youre going into a huuuge game.

Fire Support Cadre is insane. Its strong enough to where it really should have Apoc-Only restrictions, and im not even joking. i dont ever run it because its viewed as even more cheese-riddled than riptide spam...which i already dont do.

Crisis suits are literally whatever you need them to be (outside assaulty). Every possible loadout has a use, it just depends if the rest of your army needs that loadout or not. Usually duo fusions or plasmas are the go-to since it spams anti-vehicle and anti-heavy infantry. Bursts arent bad either since theyre cheap and fire like crazy, missilepods are awesome if you want markerdrones in the unit (same range) or dont want to deepstrike the suits, and flamers ... ok flamers suck lol i bring one as a slot filler if i ever need it (usually on commanders) for overwatch purposes.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

There are certainly cheaper ways to procure the above items without handing GW money. The secondary market is replete with models, you just have to be patient.

As for 'cheese' I put no stock in tying a hand behind your back in the guise of fair play. In 7th edition, Tau are a middling army. SM, Eldar and Necrons were the top 3 performers at ATC last week. It's a new world. We're not that great anymore so take every advantage you can get to get back up to the big kids table.

That being said, no one should be using an FSC in a game against a newbie 12-year old at the local GW. There's a difference between that and taking it to a store event; totally legit. As for pickup games between friends, well, that's between you and your gaming group.
