Welcome to my first foray into unfamiliar territory as I try to tackle many of firsts, my first major conversion based army, my first major attempts at scratch building, sticking to a budget, and my first time building Orks in general. I was never an Ork fan to begin with, but through a series of minis thrown in with trades and a random box of bits I was given, I found myself with a sizeable enough amount of Ork to build a respectable 2000ish point army. I choose Kult of Speed because I’ve always been a fan of mechanized lists and
Id like that to continue with Orks, its also perfect considering the abundance of trukk chassis that were in the box and the small amount of boyz I have. The idea is simple only utilize what I have plus $100, no more, no less to build a complete and painted army within 3 months.
large bag o bits
2
AOBR War boss
1 Big Mek with
KFF
66 boyz (half seem to be
AOBR)
6 nobz with big Choppas
3 nobz with power klaws
10 burnas
8 trukk frames
1 battle wagon frame
6
AOBR kopptas (missing rotors and bases)
1 mek with Kustom mega blaster
1 Stompa with 75% of the bits
And any thing I can find from my local dollar store
I came up with a rough 2000 point list I think I can acomplish using what I have and what I can cobble together
Ironically since I'm building a Kult of Speed army the one type of bit I don't have at all are wheels

. By my calculations I'd need about 100 wheels at least and considering most bitz sites sell a set of 6 for $10, that's out of the question. In despair I went to the local 99 cents store to pick up some straws that I'd inevitably be needing for gun barrels and other orky know whats when I discovered this little gems. I picked up a pack of these pop caps (they come in sets of 20) and hoped it would be the same scale as my one lonely reference wheel.
A bit small but a good start, but the best part was that they exactly fit the trukk axles without modification! And they're cheap to boot.
next we have the humble trukk chassis, I want the Elite choice trukks to be a bit distinctive from the regular troop versions so I'm going to reshape the frame slightly.
I started by cutting out the angled section in the middle with my trusty sprue cutters, no time for tedious models saws here!
Next I straightened out the chassis with some sprue I had lying around, you also see I reinforced the back axels with some bendy straw (cant go wrong with 250 straws for $1)
I aligned the front axle after extending the drivetrain.
Next I test fitted some popca....er I mean sturdy ork engineered rims.
Got both elite Trukks down, and started on one of the regular boyz tranports.
I also started work on my Mek Gunz, I plan to make about 6 of them, which will have tow hooks on the back driven into the battlefield by the trukks.
Here is where I’m starting to run into trouble, I don’t know how to bulk up the wheel, I took off the orange cap to see if I'd like the hub without it, I also added some plasticard to round out the wheel, though I’m not entirely happy with the look, any suggestion will be appreciated
Also if anyone has an abundance of orky bits they're looking to get rid of for the right price let me know, cannibalizing kits for bit is outside the realm of this project at the moment
Day 1 total spent $11.03, total remaining $88.97
