Do you think a Loganwing terminator army could be effective for Space Wolves?

Still unsure what army to choose

Terminators is one of those units I wish were awesome, to back up their fluff. However, they are not. There is too many thingies out there with AP2, and they never make up the exorbitant point cost.

I would build it, for funsies, because I love terminators. But as far as winning games ... it's gonna be really tough.

Wait for the new codex.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Word on the street is that SW termis might get deep striking but it's just rumours so far.

Don't all Termies have deep strike?

Most all Terminator armies suffer from a severe lack of models and killing power. DA probably are the best at it, and Deathwing isn't exactly awesome by any means. Weight of fire is a pain for them to deal with, and they are slow. Deepstrike, and take shooting for a turn, or Land Raiders and reduce your model count even further. There really isn't much of a point, although they are awesome for fun games.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

We already can, in Drop Pods. This has the advantages that we can attach characters and don't have to worry about mishapping, but it limits us to 4-5 man squads and there's a 35 point tax. It's a pro/con that I personally feel like is fair. That's not what makes SW termies bad.
What makes 'em bad is that they cost too many points. Sure, they're only 33 points base, but a Power Fist puts us at 3 points above the cost of a normal Terminator. Sure, we don't need Power Fists, but without them our damage output is at that of a Tactical Marine Captain with a 10 point upgrade. We can buy combi-weapons, but Power Armored Wolf Guard can do that too, so you shouldn't be taking the Terminator Armor if their specialty is going to be a drop-pod-combi-bomb. Heck, our Lighting Claws may be a bit better, but Lightning Claw terminators cost us 48 points, and TH/SS terminators cost us a whopping 63 points. (We can swap the Thunder Hammer for a Power Fist, but it's still 58 points, or 13 more than a Space Marine's.)
On top of this, we can't take Heavy Flamers and are limited to one special weapon of any kind per five models, whereas Dark Angels can take a CML AND an Autocannon, or similar.

We just don't have comparable options, and our prices are too high.

The fact that a giant pile of terminators lead by Grimnar has a name means it's popular enough to require a term to use as shorthand. Things which are popular tend to be so because they're effective (no one comes up with names for the nearly infinite number of combinations of stuff that doesn't work well).

The very fact that you called it a Loganwing means it's effective. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be called a Loganwing. It would be called nothing.

That's not the deep striking I mean and as Farseer Anath'lan pointed out, that's just less points for models. One drop pod is an entire Termi Wolf Guard.

And we can take Heavy Flamers, at least till the next codex, so I'm not sure where you got that information from.

Fish of Fury is still a name, it isn't effective for eons now.

Things with a name were usually (not always) effective at some point, not nececerly now.

As for loganwing

New codex right across the corner, wait to see changes. currently SW terminators are very, VERY different from codex marines in price, combination options, methods of use and efficiency. and there is no telling how much, if at all, any of this will change.

Honestly the greatest aspect of the SW terminators in my eyes is the ability to serve as team leaders in other squads, and be on lower budgets (even if slightly less equipped, a power axe is just as good as a fist in many cases)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I'm pretty sure that DA can only take 1 heavy weapon per 5 man squad...I wish we could take two, that would be awesome. The CML is only stuck on top of other weapons...So you can take your storm bolter or, as I allways do, stick it on a THSS model and benefit from the better invo. =)
