I've been invited to participate in a campaign using the new IG vs. Ork campaign book (cant recall the name atm). I dont have any Orks, IK or IG myself, so I'll be using the hosts models to play the game. The host told me I was one of the few people he knew who didn't mind using his models to play. So I was curious whether not wanting to play games with a friend's models was a common issue.

Depends. I don't realy like other armies then AM. But from time to time I do use my boyfriends demons. Most of the time it is not a problem here as people don't lend armies around.

I would use someone else's minis, but would not enjoy it nearly as much. I'd worry about breaking things, even if they said it was ok and happened. It wouldn't be my army, so some of the fun and attachment would not be there.

I'm sure overall I'd still have a good time, but there would be a cloud over my fun.

I dont mind using other peoples models. I borrowed my friends Eldar once. It's a good way to try a army you want to start if a friend has it already.

In my gaming group we do this all the time. This way we can involve even the friend who is very slow in building his army and we get to play armies we would usually not consider building.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

I'm from the future. The future of space

Hosting a game and providing all the figures is a noble tradition within wargaming, going back to the earliest days.

Although apparently if you wanted to game with Charles Grant and Tony Bath, you had to wear a suit and tie.

And there is no way I'd store my painted miniatures under a book shelf that bowed so much under the weight of all those books.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

There is nothing wrong with using another's model, but personally I would never use someone else's model. If only because anything I touch seems to break from little plastic figures to trucks and construction equipment.

Everything I say, barring quotes and researched information, is my personal opinion. Not fact.

I wouldn't mind if it were no burden to the owner, for example if it were a themed game and they already had the forces set. There is something about seeing my own models on the field, though, so I'd enjoy it, not necessarily less, but differently to a normal game.

I generally wouldn't mind, but I am also among those who are cursed with the ability to break other people's models just by waving a hand in their general direction.

I always prefer to use my own, but I've been playing with other folks' models my entire wargaming career. I used to go to Historicon every year, and unless you were playing in the tournaments (which was actually a minority of the games running) you'd be using someone else's minis in a scenario they had cooked up, often with their own set of rules.

Done it once or twice when getting demo games when new to something (going years and years back now). It's a great way to allow people who maybe only have one army or who want to use a few different models or just want to try a new game to get a feel for the game complete with actual models.

The only misgivings I have are similar to others; I don't want to break someone else's models. Granted that is generally rare in most games, but it can happen (and bad luck will have it happen when its not your model that you are using).

I don't really mind, but I tend to play slower and be super extra careful.

I just handle these plastic bits like I would handle Ming vases...

I used a friends necrons the first time I played. If it helps someone get into the game, why not. Only time I regretted it was when I let my other buddy use one of my dreadnoughts. Played it as a ba furioso and that bugger chewed thru 2 squads.

I wouldn't mind it, even had a guy offer to let me use his Space Wolves. I feel like it would remove some of the fun, as I love using my own DA boys and am more comfortable if they break or get marked.

In the warp, searching for Marbo

I usually borrow my brothers, but he doesn't really play anyways. However, a friendly guy at my FLGS lets me use his in place of proxie models. Actually...I forgot this and took home his Mult-melta marine. Better get that back to him next time I go...

Personally, I prefer to use my guys, but if someone makes an offer I'll take them up on it.

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

I'd rather use my own models. For many reasons - the satisfaction of using your own stuff, and not to mention avoiding the risk of damaging the other guy's models

It's great for trying out a new army. I would be nervous about breaking something though.
