Subject: Potential Stormclaw box pre-order issues[UK].

We'll find out soon enough eh.
|
If you preordered a copy of the Stormclaw box from the UK web store, I would advise you check your bank account even if you've received a shipping email, as I've just had the email saying the order is packed & shipped out, yet my bank balance has gone back up by exactly £75 and there are no transactions with GW Ltd listed on my card. One of the guys at my local store contacted HQ( CS is closed to the public for the weekend) and they insist that they money was taken today and the order was shipped, but obviously there's no way to be certain there's not been an error at some stage in the process until Monday/Tuesday when it actually shows up(or doesn't), and honestly I find it more plausible that GW's system has missed something than that my bank's has.
So yeah, best case scenario me and maybe a few others will get a free Stormclaw box(not really, I'll pay for the thing if it does show up obviously ), worst case their stock system is fethed and I have to hope the local store still has some of their allocation left middle of next week

That happens to me each and every time I use the web store for a pre order. It will go out early next week.

And does the money come out of your account then? The issue is that it appears the pending debit card transaction that appeared in my account when I made the order wasn't completed, in which case in the eyes of the bank's system the permissions for the transaction have expired, so if GW try to take money later in the week the bank will decline automatically even if the cash is there to take, which I can only assume would lead GW to cancel the order(assuming they're in error and it's not already been completed at their end ofc).

Yes, that's exactly what happens. When I place order, shows as pending. Then disappears a few days later. Then finally comes out of account a few days after the items have arrived. Very strange behaviour that seems to be unique to GW pre-orders.

Huh, well as long as they don't try to take the money before the box has already been shipped out there shouldn't be a problem then, since if the bank does as I suspect it will just auto-decline what will from their perspective seem like an unauthorised debit, I'll still get my stuff and I can just pay GW manually. Suppose we'll just have to wait & see now. Seriously, you'd think they'd have sorted out all this basic backend gubbinz when they brought in the shiny new webstore.

The payment will go through. All the pending transaction means is that the bank hold the money and guarantee the transaction to the merchant. It won't be declined, as long as there is money in your account. Nothing wrong with what GW are doing, just that pending transactions are only garenteed to them for a set length of time. Perfectly normal. The reason it takes a little while for GW is that they follow correct process, unlike many web shops. You process the payment when you shipped. They should not process it before, but many online shops process payments when they get the order, which is wrong.

But according to GW they have shipped, and they have completed the transaction. If they try and charge my card again, it will be a new transaction as far as the bank are concerned, since the pending one is gone from my account, and they don't just let people charge your card at random. I need to have entered my security code so that Verisign will approve the payment, and that approval is only good once they can't reuse the same authorisation once a transaction has been completed. I'm not a complete numpty you know I did check with the bank before I went all Ordo Hereticus on GW.

I ordered an item on back order from the lego.com recently and the exact same thing happened. It finally came out my account the same day it arrived, having been shipped from the Netherlands a few days earlier.
