How good is it really?

Who has been running one? How you been loading the overlord out?

I'm considering bringing one to a forthcoming tournament and trying to figure if it's really worth it. I'm getting how it's be good for wrecking vehicles and being hard to remove from an objective, but what else makes it worthwhile?

Against shooting, it's awesome (all low strength shots can be taken on the Barge so they bounce harmlessly off, all high strength shots can be taken on the Overlord's 2+/3++ to keep the barge safe).
It's fast enough to get into combat with whatever you want it to, so should regularly be able to wipe out MEQ units, provided you avoid melta bombs and power fists.
Don't throw it at hordes and deathstars. Do throw it at vehicles, MSU, and MCs (provided you take MSS. Which you should).

It's just its survivability and its ability to deal damage.

It can move 12" and then 18" flat out. So it has an amazing objective grabbing and denial range.

It has sweep attacks as per the codex.

Anything below S6 can't hurt it. Anything that can hurt it like melta and strength 9 can be taken on the overlord for his 3+ invuln.

It's immune to all damage table effects as per the changes to symbiotic repair and the fact that chariots are immune to immobilisation and living metal lets you ignore shaken on a 2+ and stunned on a 4+.

It has fleet, can issue challenges, is fearless, ect... Does D6 S6 hammer of wrath on the charge and then has all the normal cheese you get from just a normal overlord.

You basically use them to soak up fire and harass the enemy. It can sweep one unit or a vehicle and then charge / shoot another.

Presently, I run 2 CCBs and very rarely have they been destroyed. I've had one survive 3 turns of fire from 6 wave serpents where it ressed after getting killed.

The main problem is that they're expensive and although they can do a lot of damage. They're quite vulnerable in combat as they have the survability of either a vehicle or an overlord. Which is still high, but having 2 profiles means that marines, for example, can use krak grenades for attacks against the barge, tau can use EMP grenades and so on.

Target selection is the most important thing when using it. It's an amazing unit, it just has the problem of inheriting the weaknesses of both a vehicle or a single character in close combat.

I just put my overlord w res orb and sepiternal weave in a unit of 20 warriors; i've killed the units points cost 4 gams out of 5 due to volume of fire and people underestimating the resilience of necrons, especially their HQ's
