So I'm revising my thinking on my Tau list having played a bunch of games with triptide. Have found the riptides quite nerfed in7th and my Skyray has regularly been MVP. So I've been thinking:

FE:

Commander
2 x Fusion Blaster

Riptide
Heavy Burst Cannon, SMS, Stim Injector

Crisis x 3, 2 x Burst Cannon each
Crisis x 3, 2 x Fusion Blaster each (with commander)
Crisis x 1, 2 x Missile Pods
Crisis x 1, 2 x Missile Pods
Crisis x 1, 2 x Flamer
Crisis x 1, 2 x Flamer

I'm thinking of trading. The Stim Injector as well as 3 x EWO from one unit of Broadsides for Farsight, to make the fusions a more reliable "bomb" for dealing with super heavies etc. Worth it?

I think the skyrays are excessive. While fun, in a competative environment there are far better ways to get 6 markerlights on the board then the 375 point one you have.


Definitely give him the ECPA.

Dual Flamers are fine, great for aggressive DS on opponents Objective campers. I've use them to good effect in the past.

Burst Cannons are a viable choice, I run 3x Dual burst and as many Gun Drones as far as possible in one unit and for lists like yours and mine it's critical for taking care of high model units.

You need more Fusion, I'd make a second DSing squad, or seperate your Commander and DS him separately, revenue if it's will likely give up warlord. I'd swap one dual MP to dual FB and give the commander dual MPs instead.

I would consider losing one skyray to purchase void shields for the bunker. That would still leave you with 40 points to convert the flamer monats to fusion. Two birds with one stone.

As for the Farsight thing; I wouldn't worry about it. Between the fusion you'll have and the tank hunting S7 from the cadre, you'll be fine glancing imperial knights to death. And those are the biggest worry. Otherwise, you risk being pinned back long enough to lose board control in objective based missions. Baneblades et al are not very common. and if you do find them; you'll have your fusion (hopefully it comes in where+when you need it) and that's what those void shields are for!

Interesting advice everyone. The Skyrays are designed for alpha strike as much as marker support (though once they have blown their wad they do offer BS4 markers with av13, and can score). Interesting that no one has recommended Farsight. He would allow me to place the Fusion Blasters within melta range of whatever I want dead. That was the idea. Not worth it? I find my fusion scatters a bit...
