So I am trying my hand at Nids. I want to make a mid-zilla style list with lots of warrriors/shrikes and MC to back it up. This is what I am currently working with. I am looking for ways to make this better. And in this case Better = able to do decent at friendly games and local/regional tournaments.

HQ (240pts)
Hive Tyrant

E-Grubs, 2 x TL-BLD, Wings

Elites (95pts)
Venomthrope

Zoanthrope

Troops (200pts)
2 x Tyranid Warrior Brood
Barbed Strangler

Fast Attack (370pts)
2 x Tyranid Shrike Brood
Barbed Strangler
2 x RC
1 x BS/ST

Heavy Support (300pts)

Carnifex Brood
2 x dakkafexes

Formation Detachment

Wrecker Node (630pts)

Carnifex Brood
2 w/ adrenal

Carnifex Brood
1 w/ adrenal

Carnifex Brood
1 w/ adrenal

Tyranid Warrior Brood
3 w/ adrenal

The plan would be simply put the carnifexes in front and move up the field. Start in cover T1 with the help of the venom and then bull rush the formation forward with the shrikes to get into combat quickly. The dakkafexes and other warriors form up the second wave pinning and shooting where possible. Flyrant is anti-air/pysker. Flyrant and zoan hope for catalyst or onslaught.

Obvious weaknesses are lack of AA and good mobility outside of the shrikes and flyrant. I worry about durability as well especially with the shrikes and single carnies. I would like to be able to get them into combat quickly but that is not guaranteed. Getting things pinned with the BS would be ideal but again not guaranteed success there. My anti-vehicle relies on the carnies getting into combat which is what the adrenals are for.

Strengths would be I do not lack for synapse, although if I face multiple riptides or vidicators my synapse become quite fragile. Target saturation I feel is good, although the flyrant may have a bit of a bullseye. I feel that the adrenal fexes and shrikes can reach combat fast enough and survive for the next group to get in.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome to help improve the list and play. I am open to most anything in the codex but I would prefer to keep it in the mid-zilla and up areas so as few little bugs as possible. Thanks for looking.

Well...the simplest, and best "upgrade" is to add a second Tyrant. Other things I'd look at is spending less on the Shrikes. Bone Swords are cool, but are they a justifiable expense? I think you'll get more "value" from Rending Claws. If you want a CC upgrade, I suggest Flesh Hooks.

I would look at losing the Warriors, and putting in Spinegaunts/Termagants (x 20? ) that would save some points, and give you some big blocks of bugs to use. I suggest you roll on the "Strategy" Warlord chart, Battleforged give a re-roll so you have a 1 in 3 chance to get "Master of Ambush" and that is almost a auto-win with a Nidzilla CC list.
