I want to make a small war hammer army (Run as lizardmen, probably) based on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and need some good miniatures to get it started. The only requirement is that they aren't cyber-apes.

Does any one know how well those little plastic gorilla figures you can find at most craft stores would work?

It is tough to find good GW-scale chimps/monkeys/apes/etc. Believe me. I feel like I've seen them all

Reaper Miniatures has a few. Be prepared to do some conversion work though, as for some reason, most of them will have cybernetic parts.

You can get planet of the ape style heads from Crooked Dice, but they are only heads.

Pulp City has some monkeys, but again you'll run into a few cyber-parts: http://pulp-city.com/

Bushido minis have a couple small ones I believe.

They are out there. Obscure and hidden in the dampest most jungle-y parts of the internet.

Oh yeah! Totally forgot about those Impact Miniatures apes. They should work for what you're after and so should the Noble Knight one, even if he's kind of bland.

Sadly they wouldn't have the nice hunched over look I'd like, but it would work. Very little conversion required (Just pop the heads on, and make some spears), and its pretty fluffy too (Off-shoot race of beastmen)

Are you familiar with the French game "Confrontation"? Its been out of production for some time, but my FLGS had some boxes left they where selling for 10 dollars each, anything not bought would go up on Ebay. Basically, they have a giant Ape-style thing, called the "Shaka-Morkhai"*. They had two, I got one, so if you're interested they should have another on Ebay soon enough (For about 30)




*Also had the words "Le Seigneu Chacal" on it

I've collected several lines of apes/gorillas,for years and most of them have had the wrong scale, accessories or I couldn't fine enough variety to continue with the project.
