Hey all i am after any help people can give me on fielding two of my favourite units as effectively as possible.
How do you use swooping hawks? Size, kit out, tactics, target priority.
And is it possible to use eldar jetbikes in any other role other than small objective grabbers?

If you take the Shuriken cannon upgrade you can use the Jetbikes to get in the back of a vehicle and dakka at the back armor. Even the catapults glance at 6.
Also you can use them to soften up a target, e.g. Tyranid MCs before you send close combat units in. With some luck they will cause a wound or two which makes it more probable that the MC will never hit back.

Would you ever use 6 man or 9 man squads? Ideally i want to use jetbikes, shining spears, crimson hunters, swooping hawks and seer council.

So far I kept them small so I have more scoring unit that can get to objectives quick - even more since the maelstrom game mode. I don't really see any advantage in taking a bigger unit.

I've been using either 2 units of 3 jetbikes with shuriken cannons or sometimes a single unit of 6 when I'm feeling kind, as harrasment units, they hide behind a wall, get out and shoot something before getting back inside. 2 shurinken cannons still offer a good amount of dakka and if the enemy gets pissed and attacks them something more important is not shot instead.
I've also had some success with a 10 man unit of swooping hawks with an exarch and a sunrifle. They drop in drop grenades and shoot up an infantry unit on a flank and then depending on the situation I either go for an expensive tank or tank squadron, go back in reserve if there aren't any good targets or too many enemies or shoot at infantry in that priority order. The sunrifle is realy good with blind, especially against orks or necrons, and when I managed to blind a 6 man deathwing squad I was realy glad you took it.

Bigger units of GJB would be good padding for a Jetseer.
But, with their size, it makes the unit unwieldy.
If you have the points, I'd always suggest taking the cannon.

Executing Exarch
|
As said above, for jetbikes always take cannons if your taking 6 or more. 9 is doable but a bit big, take 3 cannons if you go this route. Shuriken weapons are good against almost anything, MEQ, MC's, TEQ, and with the cannons Av10 is breakable.
Hawks are like beer, they come in six packs. 6 gets you the large blast. Spring for the exarch if you can afford, even naked you get a 3+ save and BS5(which helps mitigate your blast scatter). Sunrifle is where it's at for gun upgrades, as AP3 mitigates the poor strength and blind is outright silly against certain units.
Hawks are elite garbagemen; they are designed to drop in and slaughter light infantry or hordes of crap your opponent puts on the table. Between a large blast and their raw dakka(don't forget a plasma grenade if you are in range) you can put a serious dent in any blob. Use battle focus to try to run for cover/LOS blocking. Next turn your priority is to rush the nastiest tank you can find and haywire it. If they are still around, go for remaining tanks or shoot hordes as needed. Anything I2 or less(necrons, orks) is pretty easy to blind, but hitting a blob squad and blinding them is also pretty awesome.

As an Eldar player I am pleased with most units. The basic strategy to use most of them is; put them on the table, they are that good. Of course you need more specifics than that;
Swooping Hawks. Kind of fragile, you'll want the full 10. Awesome rate of fire at ok range. However, if you're using them you'll want a source or 2 of Doom, that S3 kinda neuters them otherwise. If you're up against 4+ armor in cover, use their DS grenades for massive damage.
Warp Spiders. DS them behind Vindicators, Paskishers or some other Tank and delete it. Battle Focus and Fleet lets you mitigate a lot of DS inaccuracies. Minus DS mishaps, they have always killed more than their cost (even in old codex).com
Dire Avengers. These are excellent Serpent upgrades.
JBikes. Good as 3 to hide an steal. Good maxed as a relatively cheap Farseer retinue.

I usually field a large unit of Shining Spears and an Autarch and a Farseer on jetbikes. Taking a unit of 6 Guardian jetbikes with two cannon and a Warlock leader gives me a capable unit that can fight lighter enemy troops, give Warp Charge points, and provide another home for my characters to hop over to if the Shining Spears get in disadvantageous position.
I can see the value in the 3 jetbike unit, but the 6(+1) bike unit provides so many more options that I take it whenever I have the points.
