I do NOT want unbound in Fantasy. It screws with a lot of things, like access to magic lores (or magic at all, cough cough dwarfs), and it would be terrible.

Still, it's a fun thought experiment. Let's add on another restriction just to make things interesting. You still have the regular requirements of 25% core, etc. Characters can only ever join with units from their own army book. 2 copied rares max. Can't duplicate magic items. All that. The only difference now is that you can pick from any army book for each unit.

What would your list look like, either for fluff or brutal brokenness? Dwarfs and WE gunline with some Bret trebuchets and a level 4 mage? Which, by the way, is why I wouldn't want this to actually happen! Or maybe a nice fluffy mix of DoC and WoC with some corrupt Empire thrown in for flavor? Might be neat aesthetically to replace the 'meh' marauders we have now.

4 years ago I attended a tourney that had this theme, but you could mix characters with units with similar break test rules. My list then IIRC was

Arch Lechtor (Defensive gear)
LVL 4 high elf mage in popular ghost set up Life I think I took.

DE BSB with ASF banner

Flying Tz herald Lore of metal

Daemon of Khorne Herald

24 blood letters
2 units of 39 marauders one with GW one with Flails.
3 units of 7 or so Swordmasters
one eagle.

Whole theme concept was rerolling S5 hits

I took 3rd. One guy took something like 15 warmachines and would do shots when he misfired. Another took an all flaming list. All Chariot list was there, cool themes.

Now days. For my Daemons I'd likely take one unit of TZ or Khorne warriors and character for some fighty in the TZ and khorne themed list. This would keep all my horror blocks at 10 each.

For my tomb kings. I'd hire some handgunners with a lvl 2 of beasts. I'd love a wildform that I can toss around and a lot of the other beasts spells would fit so well. SAvage beasts on my King. 9 S8 chops with hatred or 7 attacks with a DOE!

I would expect allies in the next ed of fantasy. And I hope it's rather limited. Core and heroes is pretty fair. even using the current allied matrix. Yes even dwarfs with a lvl 2 isn't terrible. But do you really want to see every light council with a casket of souls?

I haven't looked at the new 40k rules so a little iffy on the rules for that.
Can't you just take whatever you want in an unbound army? Why would you put a limit of 2 copied rares? That kind of defeats the purpose of unbound (if I understand it correctly).

Now if I could take anything I wanted I would take 4 hellpit abominations 2 doomwheels and 4 cannons then the fattest block of like 80 or 90 plague monks with a furnace. Maybe even a vermin lord for fun! That would smash face.
That's what I would do off the top of my head. I don't care to much about mixing and matching races tho.

I suppose, I was just trying to impose some constraints to stop "ALL THE SKULLCRUSHERS!" lists. But screw it, let's go nuts!

I too don't like the idea of Unbound Fantasy, but I like your restrictions even less, Evertras!!

Most of my Unbound armies would be to dodge the Core Tax for VC or HE. It would, admittedly, be very nice to spend those 600 points on the myriad of far superior special/rare/character choices both armies have. I'd probably make a full-on monster mash list with DE (spending the points from core on more monsters) and maybe ally in some Chimerae/HPA

In terms of broken combinations, I'd have to go away and have a think, and scour some army books. Off the top of my head, it would be pretty nasty to combine skavenslave tarpitting with some nasty shooting from other armies (e.g. Dwarves, Empire) but I'm not certain on how the Skavenslave rules are worded, so I'm not sure if that's even possible...

Honestly, I'd love to run tyranids. With a few tweeks to their rules I think it would be fun to have a completely alien race on the world.

Either that or All Carnasaurs all the time. 300 points for a Scar-Vet on a Carnasaur. You can take 5 at 1500 pts, 8 at 2400, etc.

What if it had a FOC like 40k?? 1lord/hero min 2 max and 2 core units min 6 max then up to 3 special(any points value) and 3 rare(any points value).

I would really love to run my dragon ogres in my OK army legally. I do it already because we can house rule anything we want. Most dont mind as they arent overly competetitive.

It's a fun thought experiment for fluff. It's too easy to make a broken list with rules, however. That's the state 40K got in. Just stacking as many borked rules as possible.

-Kholek Suneater (or Kulgath Plaguefather). Chaos Ogres with TZ, GW. Ironblasters. Hellcannons. Arachnarok spider, Chimeras. Theme is they are all some form of Sky-titan. Model them as giants. Or young giants (ogres).

-This is one I thought about recently and I think someone kind of asked it before. Swap out a slann (pretty much my favorite model) for a slaughtermaster. Ogres were the last race made and were created to curb greenskins and/or chaos. So it's not out of the question a slann could lead them.

-Steam tanks. Gyrocopters. Hellblasters. Organ guns. Dwarf Cannons (special). Razordon/Salamander light tanks (kind of WWI and prone to failure). Dwarf riflemen. Engineers. Imperial Guardish, advanced technology theme.

-Miners, Gorgers, Entombed Beneath the Sanders. Your whole army are ambushers.

-Doc with Dwarf heroes/lords who have access to the rune system. Nurgle with 150pts of runic items

I love the idea of a sky titan army. I would consider using bonegrinder giant rules for them

I said this in the 40K unbound thread a while ago, and I'll say it again.

Chaos Spawn.
Hundreds of them.

No, no marks or anything. But vanilla Spawn. With enough of them, i'm increasing my chances of actually moving them successfully across the board!
