If you want a cc unit just get assault terminators. If you want a ranged unit terminators really aren't that good.

If you want an assault unit, go with the assault terminators.

Tactical terminators are a jack of all trades unit, and are a little expensive for what they do. I field mine, and enjoy them; but if you are looking to load up a box of pain to ship across the battlefield, go with the specialists.

For listed delivery, Assault no question. I like running Tac Terminators, but they really are just up armored tactical squads.

assault, especially when you add TH and SS. Crush everything and laugh mechanically.

Honestly, I'd still take tactical terminators here.

Yes, the land raider does mitigate one of the key weaknesses of assault termies (getting there), but it's easy to miss that it also mitigates the biggest weakness of tac termies - being matched up against the wrong target - and because mitigating that problem is sort of the only reason to take assault termies in the first place (other than looking cool, of course), well, then why not just take tac termies in the first place?

It's also one of the times you can really rock the heavy flamer.

You mean maniacally?

Robot laughter is cool too though

But yeah it depends on your chapter master's loadout. If you are running a combat HQ you want to run a squad with him that compliments his strengths

Assault terminators are the strongest punch assault-wise you can bring in SM Terminators. But they aren't ALWAYS the right choice.

For example: when fighting a tau list, I found tac termies were surprisingly effective in a raider (I had one with assault one with tacs). They got to shoot, assault, and they crushed in combat (because Tau just lose in combat). It was surprisingly effective. Units without a lot of AP2 are also really gonna feel tac termies (who will shoot them then punch them). Finally, chain fists are very strong against vehicles.

In those instances, or for those types of armies, tac termies can really perform wonders.

Assault termies, however, are your best bet for just fighting things and winning in a fight.

I'd take Assault Termis over Tac Termis is almost every case.
