I was thinking about picking up a copy of the Brushfire rules while things are on sale over at WargameVault, but wasn't sure which version of the rules were more complete. It seems like the difference is that the Digest has more rules (or at least more factions), while Historia has the fluff. Any suggestions?

That is correct, the Digest version has all 8 original factions in it, but it is also missing the Campaign section. Historia Rodentia has 4 Factions, including the fluff for them. Journey to the East has the remaining 4, and their fluff. Neither book is complete yet, in the fluff department yet, but the PDFs will be updated as they are finished.

If you're just looking to get into the game and haven't decided on a faction or, you want to know what model choices any potential opponents have, the Digest rules are likely the best option. If you care about a particular faction and have already selected your side, Historia or Journey would be the book to pick up.

I always suggest Digest rules to anyone starting out in any game. they're compact, easier to carry, and generally cheaper. I definitely suggest the Digest Rules for Brushfire because it comes with all of the factions except Cult of Exomorphism, so it definitely gives you a broader spectrum of models to test and play with.
