Now, I know a lot of people have done this type of stuff, but most of the time it seems they go for modernized Highlanders, with flak armor of various types and such. What I am proposing to do is a little different, what I want to do are Feudal World Highlanders, commanded by the men and women of nobility of their planet
My army is still very much a work in progress, and I at the moment I have more questions then solutions.
First off I want these to be cheaper then buying cadians or catachans, so for a group of 50 (My target number of the lads), I want to come in under the cost of them , which is 145 before tax and shipping. My solution to this is to buy everything but the arms and legs in pieces
For the torso's of the majority of my men I was thinking of either using chaos marauder torso's, or High Elf Archer torso's, because they fit with the idea of feudal worlders. And then for the command squads and possible the Sgt, I was thinking of using empire Greatsword torso's. For the Entire group I was gonna use Old Rieksguard heads, with those awesome beards and such.
For the Legs I was planning on using Victoria Miniatures Highlander legs, as well as her selection of arms and bits.
My Questions are as follows: Does anyone have comparison pics of the high elf archers to cadians, as well as marauders so I can attempt to compare torso size, also whether fantasy is a noticeably different size compared to 40k. Another question that springs to mind comes to whether you think this would be plausible, and if so, would it be GW approvable, since I Do have GW parts incorporated into it

You are looking for
Victrix 28mm Napoleonic Highlander

then you can add in las guns or keep em as "auto guns"
with conversion bits from like Vics minitures (then also add flak armor for people need it and such)

Edit: Oh wait this has to be GW approvable?

not really, I just want to be able to blow enough smoke up their butts to get into comp.
I did for awhile consider victrix, but the size comparison is VERY noticible. I was planning on kitbashing parts from all over GW and from Victoria Lambs mini's to be exceptible, the main issue is which kits to use.

Actually if you put the Victix figures next to Forge World, such as the Death Korps of Kreig, they are very comparable in scale. My suggestion would be to use the separate DKoK arms with the Victrix bodies.

If you are bent on using as much GW parts as possible, check out the Empire line or the Bretonians. The peasant archers and Men at Arms have long frocks that can be made into reasonable kilts just a little putty work. Here is an old mini of mine doing just that:

The Men at arms also come with useful pan helmeted heads and can be seen on Dave Taylors Genswick 33rd Rifles as seen here:

Not to sound like an jerk, but I am not sure that you understand what I am talking about. I do NOT want to use Victrix, I want to use either Kromlech or Victoria Lambs Highlander legs, combine it with torso's from one of the WHF lines, and attach old rieksgaurd heads to them,
When I say rieksgaurd, I mean the old models without helmets and that sometimes came on foot, I found a substantial amount of the heads at a particular site for decent prices

Sounds like a good plan. I don't have any comparison pics, but fantasy parts do tend to be a bit smaller than 40k, however, I don't think it will be too much of a problem, especially if you're using Vic's arms and guns. Vic's arms and guns are a bit more slender than Cadian arms (though they still look great on Cadians too) so they should look good on fantasy torsos.

The only issue you might run into is doing a bit of greenstuffing or creative positioning if the the fantasy torsos are less wide than Cadians (I don't know if they are or not). Almost all the Victoria lasgun arm sets are one piece with both hands being connected to the lasgun.

As for the GW'ishness of them, if you're using any non-GW parts, it's pretty much up to your local GW store whether or not you can use them there. There are wildly divergent reports about what different GW stores accept and it seems to be up to the arbritrary policy of whatever GW employee you're dealing with at a given point. If you're playing anywhere else, then it really doesn't matter. Most tourneys are not GW-run anyway, and usually don't care about model origin as long as they are WYSIWYG.

Well I have ordered the heads, which I have discovered are Knights of the White Wolf heads, as well as a set of torso's from the Empire Greatswords. When they arrive I will post them so you all can see what I am after

Kromlech and Victoria miniatures sell BUMLOADS of highlander themed stuff, I'd give them a look
