Hello everyone.

I have recently grown tired of painting and playing silver figures (Necrons, and Grey Knights), and have bought the following miniatures:

Predator
Drop Pod - will probably not use this
2*Tactical Squad
Assault Terminators
Land Raider Redeemer
Spartan Assault Tank
2*5 man siege breacher squads (to proxy for vanguard veterans with siege shields)
2*5 man mark III Iron armour suits + 10 phobos bolters (to proxy for another tactical squad/spread among current squads)

I was wondering if anyone had any improvements about the following list:

About the spartan and other forge world models, I am planning on starting a 30k army. Also the legionaries will be proxied for 40k. The spartan is in there because I love the idea of it, and the look. Also, my primary opponent (my brother) is running heldrakes+nurgle marine spam, and has no objections to it.

Terminator Captain would be better as Shield Eternal Chapter Master. Then he's a real threat.

Why Grav guns on tac squads? Plasmaguns are better if you're not relentless. If you move (which with no transports you'll have to do basically everyturn) they only have a 9" range giving a measely 15" threat range on the move. Also you can't take 2 special weapons in a squad so you'll have to swap that meltagun for something. Also I'd advise streamlining the squads to single purpose. Also always take a matched combi to the special realistically you get to fire your special weapon for 1 crucial turn and the combi doubles the combat effectiveness of a 200 point unit for 10 points.

Generally tacticals need a transport to get into range. Particularly with the armoured nature of the rest of your army. Rhinos would suit best.

Hammernators in a LR is good.

That Vanguard units is horrendously expensive 305. For just 10 points more you could get 7 hammernators. Storm shields on 1 wound 3+ save units are rarely worth it and never en masse. The problem being that boltguns, Ork boyz, Broadsides etc that kill marines kill them just as good with a 3+ as a 3++.

The Predator seems out of place. A Vindicator would fit the aggressive nature of the rest of the list better. Though perhaps those points would be better spent sorting out the tac squads.

Based on your current collection, I'd say try to lower your point values. You can field all of that, but marines are tissue paper weak.

You'll think they aren't. They have 3+ saves, you'll say. T4. ATSKNF. Those are traps, meant to lure you to your doom. Marines die terribly when out in the open. They want boxes to get onto objectives. Hopefully objectives with cover. Then they will sit on them for you, and marines can sit well. They can take punishment. But they're only killy when within 18-12" of an enemy (assuming 6" move to rapidfire range), and even then, they're not that killy. They can be combat squaded, which is nice for rear-line stuff, but the rest of the squad still needs something to get them into combat.

Vanguard veterans are AWESOME sounding. They're cool, flavorful, and typically just look nice. Sadly, marines suck at combat. Hammernators and captains/chapter masters? those things can fight. Assault marines and Vanguard vets? They just can't do it. It's not an issue of damage, it's sustenance. You're almost always outnumbered as marines, and you need to either annihilate a unit in one phase, or you need sustainability. Hammernators have the latter in spades.


Marines are really expensive pointwise, yet they still die pretty easily. Marines have cheap and very good transports to counter this, and that's what this list needs. It may have a lot of bolters, but bolters just aren't that good, especially at higher point values.

At lower points, lots of marines can actually be pretty scary, even without transports, especially if the enemy didn't bring a lot of Ap3. But ap3 is cheap now adays.

gives me 10 points, though I have no idea what to spend them on. I could drop the armoured ceramite from the tank, split the terminator squad in two, buy another rhino and have one termi squad in a LR, and one in the spartan?

I like the list a lot more. Armor Saturation is good.

The list with two LRR I think is a lot stronger. You can use the extra 40 points to maybe put some MMs on the LRR. The real issue I see with the list is that at this point, is that you're pretty much stuck in the 24" range of effectiveness. That's fine, but it might leave your PC out in the open on its lonesome. As well, fliers will be your absolute utter bane (which should be okay if you're playing maelstrom, probably).

What options, if any, do you have for the tac squads? Are they set on MM/m and PC/pg?

Whether they are or not, the latest list is definitely the strongest so far.

I have yet to build them, so all various options are open. Any other suggestions? Also the LRR's already have mm's in the previous list. I could upgrade the rhinos?
