Ok so I found some super-awesome models from Dust Tactics, which can be seen here:

http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Flight-Games-DT018-Gorillas/dp/1616611235

They're the axis gorillas in the event that there's an issue with the link.

My question is, what makes the most sense to have the axis gorillas as the bulk of the force for a counts-as conversion army? The obvious answer is Jokaero, but I don't feel like those can be fielded in the quantity that I would like to field them (not like Termagant quantity but more like a 10-15 point model, so having anywhere from 20-40 or so in an army). I definitely want to have a Planet of the Apes feel to the army. Maybe orks would work? Maybe grey knights, just because I think the gorillas should be kind of elite in close combat, but that doesn't fit the fluff as well. Basically, I'm looking to have a fluffy army that is fun to play that fits the archetype of having a rough-n-tumble fighting gorilla army. I'm not that averse to modelling weapons on the gorillas, but it would be ideal if they were like Khorne dogs - sort of tough and scary and fast, but they really shouldn't have ranged weapons.

Space marines...they're just having some gene seed "issues" run Captains with twin Power fists, and Raven Tactics Guerilla Fighters! If you run them as Blood Angel sucessors the Gorillas can be assault marines. They just "count as" having CCW, etc...

Imperial Guard and Inquisition. You could use Ogryns as the Apes, then the Jokaero etc... etc..

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Meganobz in trukks. They're effective against most things and an appropriate substitution. If you're committed to having no ranged weapons you can upgrade all of them with killsaws, which is effective as well as fluffy. Each unit (3 MANz, 3 saws, bosspole, trukk) will run less than 200 points so you can run more than 20 of them at 1500.

Oh, and if you want apes with ranged weapons check out AT-43.
