Hi Dakka,
I am going to be playing my friend soon who will be playing Tau, fielding a Commander with a set up that Ignores Cover, has Monster Hunter, Re-rolling to hit and all sorts of nasty shenanigans, as well as two, maybe three Riptides and a few Broadsides too, alongside Fire Warriors and Pathfinders.
I've constructed this list trying to think of ways to counter the nasty combos but require your help to make it decent at taking on Tau as well as other factions, since I won't just be playing against Tau.
Without further ado:
HQ
Hive Tyrant
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW

-Wings

Hormagaunts x20
-Toxin Sacs x20

Hormagaunts x20
-Toxin Sacs x20

Elites
2x Zoanthropes
= 100
Fast Attack
Gargoyles x 15
-Adrenal Glands x15
= 120
Heavy Support
Biovores x2
= 80
Exocrine
= 170
All together it comes to 1250 exact.
Regarding changes that you might make, please bear in mind I'd like it to be a TAC list with a few other important details:
1) The Exocrine is my favourite model so I would like it to remain in the Army.
2) I would like another Flying Monstrous Creature (either Harpy or Hive Crone) but I wouldn't mind replacing a Hive Tyrant to make the points.
3) Anything else is fair game to replace or revamp.
3) Currently, I have no Dataslates, nor do I have the new Anphelion Project so while I would love to use Living Artillery, Skyblight or some Forge World models...I cannot.
I eagerly await your advice

Sadly adding in a Warrior Brood for "Living Artillery" is off the Table. Well I suggest you add more Troops, if you trim the Hormagaunts to x15 each, you get 80 points to spend on a Brood of Termagants x20. Are you married to Adrenals on the Gargoyles? I suggest you trim enough to add Thorax Hives on both Tyrants for Electro Bugs...or Shredder Beatles. (Losing the Glands, or trimming figs) Another high value add on is Mawloc, they excel at eating Pathfinders and the like, and can tangle with a Riptide when called on.

Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

My only suggestion would be to drop the AG from the gargoyles for TS. Combining 4+ poison with their blind attack can cripple the riptides and any other big MC (looking at you wraithknight). Charge in the gargoyles to blind it, then finish it off with the horms or tyrants.

@pinecone77 Thanks for the reply - trust me the Dataslates are on the way! Still undecided about the Anphelion Project re-release though, shall have to see reviews.
Are Hive Tyrants with Thorax weapons the new standard in 7th? I was under the impression that Thorax weapons count as firing a weapon and so detract one set of Devourers .
I'll certainly look to filling out another Troops choice, target saturation is never a bad thing
I'm not, although I think it is ideal for them, since you get to use the Jump Pack movement in the Assault Phase and still re-roll charges (and runs) with Fleet.
I'm yet to buy a Mawloc although it is on the to-do list
@Freytag93 Do Toxin Sacs overrule the 6+ Poison on the Blind attack?

Totally agree with adding a Mawloc here. And if I am not mistaken isn't a venomthrope a must in any nid list? I may be incorrect, but I know he's pretty sick.

Venomthropes are good - however I know I am playing against Tau with lots of Ignore Cover shots...it's a waste of points.
Yeah, Mawlocs are on the next to get and paint list.

I like the list barring 1 suggestion: drop the upgrades for the hormagaunts in lieu of more gaunts. Even if they make it to combat, naked hormagaunts are lightyears better than any of the Tau troop units in combat. You'll need to make it there though. More bodies will help out.

Well, I have been a standard bearer for, add thorax hives for justice! They only cost 10 points, they give you a Template for clearing Terrain, and Haywire is almost the only solution left to us vs AV. As I've said many a time "Best 10 points you'll ever spend"
I often like Vector strike, and a Template. And you can still spray Brain Leeches, just half as many...just comes in handy to often not to take.
While Adrenal is handy on Gargoyles, I prefer Toxic...and just plain "Moar Gargoyles" is likely the best choice available. The nice thing about Toxic is pesky Uber Tough MC's. I am of the opinion that when given multiple "poison" rolls, you take the best available...(4+) I don't know of any reasons contrary ... Automatically Appended Next Post:

Venothropes do rule...except vs Tau. At least till you eat all his marker lights.
