So I whipped up quick Crimson Fists and Celestial Lions test models and decided that CL is the next army. I tried gold many different ways and since the army will have lots of infantry, I wanted it to be easy and fast to replicate.

1. Leadbelcher
2. Sepia shade
3. Leadbelcher (picking out silver bits)
4. Nuln Oil shade (over silver bits)
5. Auric Gold highlights
6. 'Ard Coat technical (entire model)

I love it! It was awful to freehand the lion so I may have to sculpt a pad and make molds : (

Ill put one up after my class. To be honest its a little embarassing compared to my Tzeentch or book freehands. I may practice more tonight.

Here we go, I'm not sure if I can replicate it quickly on 60+ dudes. I'll probably have a go at trimming it up.

Wow gold is a hard color to pull off.

But remember that most of the Celestial lions living are veterans now.

From whom are unforgiven we bring the mercy of war.

Heck yeah, man. It will be quite the elite army, hopefully.

Wooha nice. Maybe you can add just a super minor bit of oxide wash at some points or crevasses to fit the "living veterans" characteristic.

Tip: first smear out freshly taken wash or paint on to paper so your brush isn't filled entirely with paint or wash because that will fill up all details as soon as you touch the model with your brush.
Tip 2: Maybe you could make a template for the shoulder icon. From flexible transparent plastic for example . Maybe from a old blister or package. That way you can replicate the face part of the lion 60 times over almost exactly the same. And you could freehand the manes after you've done the face?

Thanks for the tips, I will think hard on the next step

That's a really neat gold recipe. A real 'why didn't I think of that?' moment. The rest doesn't look bad either. I hope the cast pads turn out fine.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I love this chapter. Looks great! If anything, I might highlight the blue to give it a brighter look, but maybe the darker blue contrasts the gold well. Really cool that you're doing them either way.

I covered the bare model with leadbelcher followed by a griffon sepia shade and then I picked out just a few areas with Auric Gold when the wash dried. I let the 'Ard Coat gloss do my highlighting for me. The model looks incredibly shiny in person. My cell phone just cant do it.
