So I'm pretty sure we played this wrong, but it's tough to nail things down exactly with some of the infinity rules.

I had a camo marker move for its first short skill through an open space where 1 of his guys could see. He ARO'd to discover, and I declared my second skill as Move again. He passed his discover roll revealing my Hanzakut, but here's where I think we got it wrong: After he passed the discover roll he said he had a guy in TO Camo that could see where my Hanzakut was at the end of the first move, and so he got to ARO to shoot because in the camo rules it says you can wait to declare your ARO against camo markers to see if they reveal themselves with their second order.

I think this is wrong because even though my Hanzakut was revealed during that order he was revealed at the end of the order by my opponent's discover roll rather than by my second short skill.

I'm pretty new to Infinity, so I could be way off. What do you all think?

Correct. Your opponent's TO camo model would have to declare its ARO after your 2nd short skill is declared but before any rolls are resolved so the model isn't revealed by the succesful discover ARO when the TO model has to declare its ARO (which would need to be discover as it is still against a marker at that point).

One other quick question: Do special characters count towards the AVA of their basic counterpart? i.e. Can I take a Hassassin Fiday and Hussein Al-Djabel in a vanilla Haqqislam Army even though the Fiday has AVA 1?

Special characters have their own profile and AVA, and don't count towards the AVA of whatever they're based on. So you could have a Fiday and Al-Djabel.

You can take 3 Oniwaban in JSA - and STILL take Shinobu, even though she is also an Oniwaban - because she has her OWN AVA.

Same with Kirpal Singh or any of the other characters for certain units (in many cases, the only ways to make certain link teams work).
