I'm looking to spruce up and personalize my Chimeras and Leman Russ tanks. I have ruck sacks, fuel drums, jerry cans, etc. from the GW vehicle accessories sprues, but I am looking for more supplies and stowage to put on the tanks than what the sprue offers. I'd like to have more ammo boxes, ration boxes, jerry cans, etc. to make my tanks look like they're being used.

I was considering picking up some boxes, ammo, stowage, barrels, etc. from Verlinden or a similar company. My real question is, because 40k has that goofy heroic scale, in what scale should I buy vehicle accessories? I am split between 1:35 and 1:48. I'm afraid 1:35 will be to small/narrow, and that 1:48 will be too large.

What scale would you guys recommend? What have you all used in the past?

Any help is appreciated

1:35 items are larger than the 1:48 equivalents, not the other way around.

For boxes and crates etc, scale doesn't matter much - they're made to fit whatever goes inside them. Model-wise, they're also much cheaper to make yourself out of plasticard.

The GW fuel drums are suspiciously similar to 1:35 fuel drums, but their jerrycans are closer to 1:48.

^ What Clang said.

As the number in the fraction gets SMALLER, the bits get larger.

GW vehicles use a combination of 1/48 with 1/35 and LARGER (1/32 or higher). The drums are closer to 1/35, the jerry cans closer to 1/48. The hatches closer to 1/35, tracks on some vehicles closer to 1/35.
