So, assuming you're a player deadset on playing one or more Infantry Squad blobs, what's the best ally to take advantage of force multipliers?
Within the codext itself, the obvious choices are Commissar Yarick, priests, and Primaris Psykers.
With the number of ally codices available for Imperium armies, there is a lot of possibility here.
I find myself going back and forth between GK and Space Marines. Both bring potentially powerful psychic buffs. GK have the ability to add easy warp charge points to ensure your powers get off (and incredible grenades). However, Space Marines provide more reliability in choosing powers thanks to Tigurius' reroll.

Here's an article I wrote on IG support options, both inside the codex and with allies; most of it applies to blobs.
http://antorsfinest.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/spotlight-on-astra-militarium-support.html
I'm not a fan of gimmicks like the Azreal blob, for various reasons including the huge cost of it and the difficulty in getting the best out of it without overdoing it. I'd take an Inquisitor with Rad Grenades and Mastery Level 1, for Prescience, Psychic defence, Stubborn on Ld 10 and the T-penalty in CC. I'd tend to avoid Special Characters for this, with the exception of Coteaz they're all to expensive for what they add to Guard rather than their own armies.

Nice article! So far, I'm definitely leaning towards GK for exactly these reasons.

Cheers.
Remember, if you want other allies, you can take Inquisitors on their own from the Inquisition codex, freeing up the allies detachment and minimising troop tax. That said, some GKT with a Psycannon and a couple of hammers make a nice backfield drop unit that can fly in an take a fair bit of fire. A Dreadknight would also make a nice aggressive addition to a Guard army.

I run GK with allied IG(until I can afford more kriegers) and I find that coteaz, a second level 1, and a few henchmen squads are great additions.
