Hi everyone,

I've got a friend who played much until the end of 5th edition but got increasingly frustrated with his Tyranid army. He deserted 40k for Infinity... traitor! Now I've got him as far as trying 7th edition with the new Tyranid Codex. Could you guys help me and write him a list that will allow him not to get blown off the table every game. It doesn't have to be competitive, just so that he has fun playing.

We're fine with proxying as long as it isn't putting empty bases on the table. So using one model for a similar one is perfectly ok, since it's friendly games only.

Thanks a lot, here's the list of his models. Sorry if I got some model names wrong, I had to translate them from a German list and I do not play Tyranids myself.

2 Trygons
1 Hive Tyrant
1 Carnifex
32 Hormagaunts
32 Termagaunts
6 Ravener
3 Zoanthophes
20 Gargoyles
7 Ripper swarms
1 Brood lord
20 Genestealer
9 Tyranid Warriors
3 Hive Guards

My armies:
Eldar
Necron
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
Imperial Knights
Death Guard

HQ: Hive Tyrant w/2 x Twin-Linked Devourers
- Wings (just proxy with regular Tyrant if his doesn't have wings)
- E-grubs

Troop:

30xTermagants

3x Warriors
- 1 Barbed Strangler

1 brood of 3 rippers swarms
-Deep Strike

Elite:

Zoanthrope
Zoanthrope
Zoanthrope (i.e. 1 in each brood)

Fast Attack:

20x Gargoyles
-Toxin Sacs

Heavy:

Proxy both Trygons as 2 Mawlocs.

That's about 1000 points, has decent synapse (5 sources of synapse, although 3 are pretty fragile), lots of gribblies, and wouldn't require him to buy anything new since you're fine with proxies. There's a lot of mobile, nasty stuff in there with the Gargs, Mawlocs, Flyrant and Rippers. The Zoans also provide a decent boost to the list's psychic abilities.

Well, what does the Tyrant have? If it's got Wings, it's golden...if not, well silver...

HQ: Tyrant I'll budget 240 for the current "Gold standard" if it cost less , reinvest.

Zoeys are good Elites, if possible Proxy one Veno for Zoey,x2, Zoey, Veno. Or just run Zoey, x2, Hive Guard x2, and Proxy, or solo Zoey.

I've posted a few lists that use Genestealers, so you might take a look at them for ides...I'd use the Brood Lord for sure though. I'll try to put some thought into this and post a list later...how many points do you'all usually play at?

So the basic "template will be:

HQ: Tyrant

Elite: Hive Guard, x2
Elite: Zoey Brood, x2
Elite: Proxy Veno, or solo Zoey

Troops: Broodlord, x7 Stealers 158?
Troops: Genestealers, x10 140?
Troops: Gaunts, x15 to 20 75 to 100? (I suggest one of Hormies to screen the Carnifex, and one of Termagants)
Troops, as above?
Troops: Warrior Brood, x3, Cannon 100+ depends on how they're built.....

Heavy Carnifex...lets budget 150 for a Dakkafex...
Heavy: Proxy Mawloc
Heavy: Proxy Mawloc

Something like this could win games. Good Luck, amd good hunting!

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER
