I found this model while digging around on the internet for terrain for my group's 40k games. It looks Tau-ish but I'm truly unsure how to field it in a game. I've showed the model to a couple of the members in my group and they said they'd allow it as long as it looked WYSIWYG and was clearly stated before the game what it was. I was thinking as a Hammerhead would be one of the more obvious uses. My current list already contains 3 heavy support choices but it would be worth it to see this thing on the field. For size comparison, those are 28mm figures next to it. How would the members of dakka think it could be fielded?

It could work as a Hammerhead or perhaps a Broadside or even as a Riptide though I think Hammerhead is overall the best choice.

How is this an hammerhead? not nearly the right size or shape.

Nor is his gun remotely argueable as a railgun or ion cannon.

Its a broadside at best, and sketchy at that with its puny gun.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I hate when people show up with an army with stuff like that in it. I'm trying to play the game, not memorize what all your "counts as" models do. At least when people print MTG proxies it looks like the cards it's representing.

Well I was thinking it would be a new construct for Longstrike. He was tired of his hammerhead looking like every other hammerhead. And as stated in the original post, I would have to make it look WYSIWYG for my group to allow it. I would have to put Tau bits on it to make that happen. It would just have a different hull modeled to my disadvantage. Not sure why my opponent would gripe about a hammerhead that's too big. And I don't have an army of proxies. I would just be this one vehicle for fun and it would have a big rail gun on the top and a cleverly mounted SMS setup as well. If you can't figure out what it is in an army of full GW/FW WYSIWYG models (I don't like asking my opponent what models have what so I don't do it to them) then there's a deeper issue. I wouldn't drop it on the table in a serious tournament for sure. I still sincerely appreciate the feedback...even if it was negative.

All you need to do is stretch out the legs a bit and it will be roughly the right size and shape.

If you are worried about the gun, 3rd party gun parts are cheap and widely available.

Thats really cool dude. Hammerhead should be fine.

Its a stand in for the vehicle, so who cares if the guns arent the same, just pretend its a different gun with the same effect. You could have 2 spare drones flying around it to represent the drone guns etc.

Should be awesome.

Nah way, that's a better representation of the riptide. Looks more like the walker - er, monstrous creature.

Stretching the legs is FAR from enough to get to hammerhead sizes.

Hammerheads are big. really big. far bigger than predators.

This? its first thing a walker, second thing off-sized in length and width, and probably wrong height too. its just SO far off an hammerhead I can't see it happening.

Too big for a broadside or a piranha. Too small for a riptide or Hammerhead. You might just be outta luck.

It is all down to aesthetics.

I would happily use it as a Hammerhead or a Broadside. I think it is probably too short for a Riptide.

I don't have a problem with proxies so long as people aren't using them to gain some kind of advantage, I just question how this model's aesthetic is at all "Tau-ish". Not one thing about it says Tau to me, except maybe the gun.

Like I said, wouldn't say no to it (although it looks more like a broadside proxy than a hammerhead, too small), I just disagree with the idea that some people seem to have that anything related to anime and/or mecha is automatically a good fit in a Tau army. Then again, judging from the last Tau release and the crap that came with it, like the riptide, sun shark, and FW's r'varna suit, I'm starting to think the GW design team doesn't even understand what fits the Tau aesthetic anymore.
