Well...volume of fire, and Skorchas. Orks can do well vs the Hive. Deff Dreads are also a surprise unit. AV in general is something us Nids struggle against. Templates, and blasts of course. All that plus some basic Monster Hunter tricks should give you a fighting chance.

Tyranids struggle against flamers and small arms fire. Don't rely too much on blasts, as a good nid player will properly space his army out at all times.
Focus the Venomthrope/Malanthrope and kill off his big threats IE Carnifex, Hive Tyrant, Dima; after you have killed these off it is pretty much a done deal and the Tyranid player will have run out of answers.
Also Tyranids have a hard time with armor. For some reason GW really wants us to rely heavily on our Carnifex's, Haruspex, Exocrines, and even the FW Dima.

Nids are weak to cheap non walker AV. A morkanaut would be tarpitted too easily. Go with buggies.

Rokkits have always been great against nids, the huge buffs to tank bustaz, koptaz and buggies will do you great service here since you get to easily wound monstrous creatures and instant-death multi-wound units like warriors. Mek gunz like kannons or KMKs also work really well for the same reason.
Keep in mind that bomb squigs also work against regular troops now, melta bombs can be used against monstrous creatures.
In my experience tyranids are a bit better than orks in combat, you might want to take a slightly more defensive strategy against them, rather than charging into combat at top speed.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

On the charge Orks are better, but a nid formation will not break to it due to fearless, then AP6 on Hgaunts and 5 on RC brings the fight in favor of the nid units.

I usually get may green but handed in assaults due to nids either getting the charge, being monstrous creatures(fear) or having buffs from somewhere.
I haven't played against the nids in 7th yet though.

Big Mek in Kustom Dragster with Soopa-Gun

If it were old dex Tyranids i'd have a very long lecture on how to fight them.
New dex nids.....its just sad how easily orks crush them now. Lobbas annihilate their swarms, warbikers eat their big bugs, tankbustas pen their armor and wound on 2s, heck even MANz eat them alive now since only one MC (that i know of) has a standard S8 or higher attack, and nobody wants to Smash anymore.
I bring 6 lobbas in 2 batteries every game (i dont bring more because i dont have the models lol) regardless of my opponent. They usually wreck marines pretty reliably, but they obliterate anything they actually deny armor for. 108pts worth of lobbas usually clears ~400+ of gaunts throughout the game for me lol and thanks to T7 they almost never get return fire, since nids long range weapons blows goats.

Towering Hierophant Bio-Titan
|
The best bet is as much AV and AT as possible. This is a fun match up. There is a lot of theory as to how both sides have the upper hand, and all of it is correct. This match is very list dependant, can quite easily go either way and by a wide margin hinging on a couple of units, and no matter what happens the game will soon devolve into a lot of killing, and fast.
Biovores are probably the most cost effective units here, watch out for them. AV10 can be hurt by absolutely everything and Tyranids have large volume of shooting dice. However AV12 and higher will see much higher returns, diverting a lot of Boy murdering S6 shooting to be dealt with, and the cheaper they are the less cost effective they are to shoot at with Crones. Tyrannofex is your worst nightmare. Try to tarpit it ASAP, but it's going to be a very cost effective model no matter what happens, the more of them your opponent has the lower your chances of success are. I ran into an unlucky Ork fellow against my Nids while I was running 2 of them at 1000 points - Not only tabled him. finished the game with more models on the board than what I started with thanks to the Tervigon - lost nothing but a few Gants all game. Ignore things like the Exocrine or the Warriors early game and save them for last - focused models like this are not going to be anywhere near as cost effective against you as the massed Dakka / Chopping will be. Don't fall into the lure of Burna boys, templates are not great against MC spam and most good Tyranid lists see very little gribbly spam other than Gargoyle tarpits or outflanking Devilgants. Against competitive Nids, one small unit of Burna boys played conservatively will be enough, and far from mandatory - however the more swarms he brings the better they will be, so you can meta game a little here. Regular boys are very cost effective and can hurt absolutely every model in the codex - so remember, when in doubt, bring more boys!
This is a really dynamic match up and one of my favourite in the game. Assuming both players had multiples of every model in their dex, rematches of this game could go on forever, with no clear victor (I just realised that's a lot like it says in the fluff as well). It's highly list dependant, and after every game you could pick units to counter his units. You can see how this gets replies from owners of BOTH armies describing this match up as a slamdunk. But the only really guaranteed heavy lifters in this match will be AV14 and Tyrannofex. Out of the regular playable models from each codex, almost everything can be worthwhile in this match up depending on what your opponent brings - it's just a shame that Tyranids only have about a 1:2 ratio of usable units to trash ones. This match up actually gives life to a couple of them, ScyTals AP being I relevant and combat being so easy to get into makes Hormagants actually a useable OPTION over Terms for once, and Raveners are harder for Orks to punish, and Harpys are actually somewhat usable on their own merits here. Be very careful with over and under extending, with ranges often being very relevant to a models effectiveness here, positioning is VERY important here. Have fun and enjoy what is IMO one of the current best match ups available in 40k !
