There's a small escalation league starting up at my FLGS, and I'm finding it difficult to make heads or tails of what to bring as Imperial Guard. While I know I have the advantage of numbers, everything is very points intensive, and as soon as I start trying to add things like tanks or chimeras, the points fill out real quickly.

Presently, my list is looking something a CCS, and a pair of Veteran Squds in Chimeras, but that's about all I have points for, and I don't feel particularly confident with it.

At 500 points I'd be thinking of running a list like this.

Company Command Squad with Lascannon

Platoon Command Squad with Vox
Infantry Squad with Vox
Infantry Squad
Veteran Team with 2 Melta Guns in Taurox

Leman Russ Battle Tank

Variations of this list are tried and true, at 500 points you couldn't really ask for more. You've got anti-tank, a blob with reliable orders, some fast moving meltas, and the icing on the cake: A S8 AP 3 Large Ordinance Blast

Another thing you can do is go super cheap infantry, and put down a barebones Leman Russ, in the hope that your opponent doesn't bring sufficient AT to deal with it. It's a bit of a gamble.
