Hey all,

Recently started up playing fantasy after 7th dropped in 40k. Gravitated towards WoC (complete 180 from the Tau in 40k). Anyway, a friend and I are looking at starting up an escalation campaign and I was looking for input into my army list. CC is appreciated.

500pt:

Sorcerer:
LVL1, Lore of Fire

Core:
Marauders - 14
Light Armour, Shields, MoN

Special:
Chaos Knights - 5
MoN, Enscorcelled Weapons, Champion, Standard

All told comes to 495. My friend will be playing Wood Elves which is why I gave the sorcerer LoF. I have also toyed with replacing the marauders with MoN/MoT warriors. I've also toyed with bringing a Chimera instead of the Knights to add more mobility. :Let me know what you think.

In these small matches against wood elves warriors have almost no chance. If you can get into CC you will win the day but honestly its going to be near impossiable for that to happen. He will easily be able to match you with a spellsinger to dispel your fire spells so dont count on that too much. I will say marauders are NOT the way to go. They will die in droves to masses arrows. You need to get in their face ASAP. I would consider marauder cav instead of plain marauders but even better yet a chariot will help you. Mount your wizard and move it with the knights.

This is where MoS will help you. The immune to panic will make sure that his shooting phases cannot cause you to flee.

At 500 points Heroes can't be more than 125 and since both the Sorcerer and Exalted come in just underneath the cap there is no way to give them a mount. Even a warhorse will put him over the limit. The horseman sound like a good idea so I will probably pick some up and bring them. If I can't reliably get any spells off would I be better just going with an Exalted instead of the Sorcerer?

True i forgot about that. The 4" movement will kill you. You are better off with the wizard since you can get some range with him vs none with the exalted.

Would I be better of giving the Sorcerer Tzeentch powers then, gives more shooty options, albeit with the downside of maybe giving them regen?

Regardless I think youre kinda boned at this points level. Either way you are going to end up 6 dicing your spell to try to get it off. upgraded fireball can destroy an entire unit of his in one shot but can also nuke yourself with a miscast. Its a gamble.

Chariots and knights will be your friend as they have good armor and toughness with each chariot I think has 5 wounds.

Again MoS will prevent running off the board from panic checks.

i would say take all Warriors that way your low level caster will have a place to be an distill be useful

id say do this

Caster

2 units of 12 warriors base this gives you great armor saves at low point s and a solid block to build and improve on

in this senario/campaign do you have to keep the same units in your higher points games? this is something to consider because if you can completely change your list out then it is very different than if every unit you have now has to stay in the list later on. This will make you plan more accordingly.

At first we can change the army up a bit, but once we hit 1000 we are going to stick to the army lists and simply build off of them. I have thought about getting a gorebeast chariot but would a chimera work well instead? Last time I tried it out it ended up slaughtering several of his units before being taken down by several of his heroes.

Something like:

Sorcerer:
MoN, Lore of Nurgle

Chaos Warriors - 10
Shields

Chimera
Regenerating Flesh

Chimera is able to quickly flank his units and deal with any actual scary shooting. Leaves the warriors kind of bare but I think the Nurgle lore could take care of that.

The gorebeast chariot is far more durable expecially with the nurgle mark

I love chimeras but unless you can run them in pairs with a general near to them at all times gifting them better Ld they're just not reliable enough.

Alright. Then it looks like I'll be getting a gorebeast chariot painted up.
