Your list isn't bad but I would consider a few things. Your swordsmen aren't killing anything nor will it too long in a fight with only 20. I would drop a unit of handgunners and add more statetroops, halberdiers are best. I would think about crossbows over hand guns though. The demi gryphs are great I'd prefer 4 in a unit but at 1k 3 should be fine just add musicians. Your captain, what is he going to do? He's no powerhouse so he's not flying solo and won't get a look out sir with demis. I might drop him all together. There is always room for a cannon somewhere.

I'm new as well, so take it with a grain of salt:

I'm under the impression that Handgunners aren't the best unit in Core in our book. Their lack of range, their inability to move and fire both mean that they are a very static unit (especially at 24"). Sure, they pack a mean punch with S4 and Armor Piercing, but if they arent in range to shoot, they arent going to do much.

I personally see more people run Halberds over Swords, as well. The +1S also means that you are taking off a point for armor saves, which could be helpful down the line.

Demigryphs are a good unit. Good choice!

thanks for the advice ive now got 2 squads of three demigryphs onee of which is painted . and a unit of hangunners/crossbows. i take it that the crossbows are a better idea? also im doing a different sorta theme for my army . i really appreciate the feedback guys many thanks Zinogre

what is your theme? Yes crossbows are generally considered better as they are str4 not armor piercing but they do have the 30" range which is huge when the unit must remain static

im doing the lost province of drakwald. basically the idea is that the most hounered noble in the drakwald area is fighting to cleanse the forest of beastmen and spider riders. in order to reclaim drakwald and the runefang beast slayer. the reason for this is that my noble is a decendant of the last elector count vilner. so as drakwald is filled with inumerable amounts of wild beasts such as griffons, beastmen, pegasi and demigryphs im having a high percentage of demigryphs and possibly a pegasus and griffon in larger games.

I think any kind of state troop would fit your theme so if you like swordsmen then go for it but if you want something a little more competitive then i would go with halberds. I still also think you need at least 30 if not 40.

Look into the local knightly orders in the region. I think a unit of knights, inner circle or not, will fit well into your theme. Knights just fit empire IMO. When you go up to bigger games a warrior priest will be a perfect fit along with a witch hunter(maybe, you could work in a little fluff where hes going with the army seeking beastmen shamen). Sticking with the theme i would steer clear of the grand master as it might not fit you theme unless you like his rules and want to upgrade your captian to him but get rid of the grand master fluff. A warmachine could and should be considered. If you want it to fit your fluff then model it being dragged by a horse like a chariot, done.

I like the idea of adding knights into the army, but i really like the idea of using a chariot like cannon. thanks for the idea , however how would i go about converting it . im not fond of the witch hunter idea but the warrior priest could be a priest of taal i presume. could that work.
anyway thanks for the input and i shall try and come up with a way to convert the chariot cannon.
also if i were to do a P&M blog would you guy be interested?

First of all I like this new list even though it lacks that hammer a cannon or steam tank can bring. I think this is a good list if you wanted to include a cannon drop 2 demis, make 4 in one unit, should free up the points for a cannon. I would advise you find 10 points for a magic weapon and charmed shield for your captain giving him magic attacks and a 2+ armor. Also do the p&m blog for yourself, if its good others will follow it. Here is some inspiration for your cannon being towed by horses.



And if you are going to name your character that then you MUST model him like such..........

Maybe in your world but honestly the paddle can double as a shield and his spikey hair be imbued with magic powers to be a weapon.

ill make the model (possibly) but he wont be my leader. (be funny though)
