Made a list of 1500 pts drop marines using ultra marine chapter tacts, this should be an all rounder army, let me know what you think:

still wandering what to add when extending to 1750/1850, ayone has some good ideas?

Where is the chapter master going? I dont think they can go into drop pods with terminator armor. I would get a squad of centurions or a storm raven when upping the points.

Well, I'd increase variety by giving one Tactical plasma instead of melta weapons.
The CM is rather expensive. You could add another Stormtalon for him.

You could easily split the Tac Squads and double the pods just about.

Multi-Meltas snapfire the turn they come in and can be a pain for mobility.

Drop Pod lists do not need any more help being less mobile after the drop.

Might want to consider diversifying the squads as well like wuestenfux has said.

Maybe one melta squad one plas squad and one flamer squad or something.

Options are always welcome for ultramarines.

Could even consider a barebones Assault Squad without jetpacks to get a free Drop Pod and 2 Flamers in it.

This also lets you use ultramarines doctrine in its entirety.

I would suggest dropping the multimeltas as they aren't very effective on the turn you drop, which is the whole point of the drop pod assault. Also, I personally wouldn't put the Thunder fire in a drop pod, it just seems like an unnecessary purchase. Also, however you decide to adjust your list remember that an odd number of drop pods is more efficient.

The Chaptermaster & tiggy will go in to the commandsquad and be tropped in the tick of battle, with invisibility, this unit is very difficult to shift. adding primaris of telepathy the unit is also ap2 death...

but ill add more tacticals as i add the points.

is the anti air really needed?

Why the chapter master, out of curiosity?

Looking at both lists the TFC seems out of place. It is the only thing that starts on the board which almost makes you want to go first and is the only anchor in the army and thus requires you either have AA or accept that the TFC is flyer bait.

Perhaps drop it for another flamer assault squad? Which also frees up some points to split a tac squad giving you a 7th pod (meaning 4 arrive).

Other than that it looks fairly solid. The main issue you have is Tau are the obvious hard counter and tac marines make up the bulk of your army and are underwhelming. Should be stronger in Maelstrom though.

@ Awfeel: for the barrage which is twinlinked with tiggy his ability as well as having a beatstick when needed, he can take on squads/ MC on his own

When the squad comes in it gets, the barrage, 8 twinlinked plasma shots and psychic scream from tiggy, not much is going to withstand that, return fire can be soaked by him as well.
