I'm looking at buying another guitar next month to go alongside my electric, and was thinking of buying an acoustic, but then the thought of electro-acoustic popped into my mind. If anyone can give advice on pros and cons. All help appreciated.

Personally, I LOVE the sound of a good electro-acoustic guitar more than most other sounds on the planet! It'll possibly end up being more expensive, but I'd say its worth it.
Also, playing an electro-acoustic 'feels' more like an electric than an acoustic, so if you find playing electric more comfortable, then go with an E-A.
There's something to be said for the rawness and simplicity of an acoustic, and they can sound great, but given the choice I'd go with an electro-acoustic.

An acoustic guitar will sound better, but only if you're looking at the high tier prices. Below that, an electric-acustic might be better. Go into a guitar store and try them out

Either way, don't hold back and get the best guitar you can.
I have found that, when playing live, electro acoustic is the way to go, as it really helps to eliminate a lot of potential miking difficulties. Even when I play classical gigs, my classical is electro acoustic. It just works better for me. As I have said, however, make sure that you get a good one. A poor or even mediocre electric acoustic guitar can really give you buyer's remorse.

Yeah, I gig with an electro-acoustic. It's just easier. If you have any intention at all of using this guitar in a live setting, it needs a pickup. Mic-ing up a normal acoustic is a fething ball-ache and soundguys (or gals) will despise you for making them do it.

If it's just for you and friends, and since you already have an electric, I'd say pick whichever one will get you the most guitar for the money.

Electro pros:
- If you think you may want to amp your guitar one day, or even (Gods forbid) use effects, you can do it without any hassle.
Ac pros :
- Every buck you don't spend in the mics goes in the guitar. Same price, better instrument.

I agree. For the same price an Acoustic will have better tone quality than an Electro. If you're playing for just a few people, you probably don't need the amplification.

In which case, yeah, the money is better spent buying higher quality acoustic guitar. I prefer the flexibility of an electro-acoustic, but as ever YMMV.

I think it would be worth going into a shop and trying some out. See how they sound and feel in your hands. I tried quite few guitars before I found one that felt and sounded right. It just happens to be an electro-acoustic.
Electro-acoustic is probably more versatile, since it will do everything an acoustic does. You're also more likely to find a cutaway, which you might feel you need if you are used to playing electric. On the other hand you might find a regular acoustic which is cheaper and suites you better.
