Why do you want to take a Living Artillery node when you're not using any of your normal heavy slots? You're paying a warrior tax for the exocrine and biovores, right, even with the reroll benefit?
One other comment would be, is it worth finding 5 points to make those two 5-strong ripper units 3-strong, and add a third unit of them? You'd only end up with 9 ripper bases, but would have an extra deep strike.

Just some minor nit picks...1) You'll get better value I think from a Venom Cannon in LA, because the special rule grants "pin", so the bigger gun is slightly better as a choice ( IMHO)
Also, while you can whollup most anything, you are shockingly weak vs AV.  So I would want to toss some Electro bugs where ever I could...
I don't know that this is something I would build, but it looks worth a play or two, to find out!

What do you think of this? I dropped the Malanthropes as I don't really have units in great need of midfield synapse anyways, added a Hive Crone for more anti-AV, and changed the SCs for HVCs. The warriors can be responsible for providing synapse to the Living Artillery Node, I'll just keep them out of LOS. Looks worth a play or two...it's "just me" but Electro bugs are so basic to my builds that I put them down on auto pilot.  If you find AV being a problem, you can add them in at that time I reacon...

Frankly I think you need the Malanthropes, but you can live without it if you have the Warriors. I would drop the Rippers down to 3 man and toss Electrogrubs everywhere you can. You really don't have enough anti tank fire and you just have to have more Haywire. Other than that it is quite solid.

I like your second list. Having double the amount of HVC Harpies and Hive Crones means that you're not screwed if one goes down, you've got another to still put in work
Following on from what pinecone77 and jifel said, the changes I might make are to drop the Ripper Swarms to 3 Bases each and the Venomthrope and add Electroshock Grubs to all your Tyrants, as well as two models to the Gargoyles to make them a bit more durable in the form of bodies (50% chance to come back, while good, isn't that reliable). Unless that Venomthrope is putting in more work than I realise
I wouldn't make any changes to the Living Artillery formation - seems fine as is
