Haven't played my Eldar in a very long time as the default builds are too strong for play against friends who take fluffy lists, however I want to break out my space elves again so I'm after some suggestions suitable for a 3k list that is on a par with the typical 1st Company Space Marine list, i.e., lots of terminators and sternguard. I can field most things for Eldar...

Certain armies are Boy armies and some are Toy armies, in general. Some squads follow those same 2 distinctions.

Eldar, overall, are a definitely a Toy army. Toy armies are better at higher points. Boy armies are better at lower points.

At 3K points, you can bring -a lot- of toys.

2 full squads of Spiders
1 full squad of Hawks
2 full squads of Dragons each in a geared-up Serpent
1 full squad of Scorpions just in case
2 squadrons of 3 2xBL War Walkers
Wraithknight
Spritseer + ScytheGuard in a geared up Serpent
WraithGuard in a geared up Serpent
6 x 9 JBikes w/ ShuriCannons
JBike Farseer w/ Fearless Blade, Sprit Stone, Phoenix Gem and try to roll for that Inviz.

Man I wish I could run that list.

Eldar (Craftworld Sahal-Deran) 2500pts. 2000pts Fully Painted.

Dark Eldar (Kabal of the Slashed Eye) 2000pts. 1250pts Fully Painted.

That's not serpent spam, yes there are several in there, however they are carrying multiple different units that need the mobility the wave serpent gives them.

I count4 wave serpents, at 3000 points. Not to mention only one wraith knight, this is definitely a varied list that has tools to counter just about everything.

It'd be a lot of fun to run my orks at.

On Topic:

Eldar are a strong army. Even stronger if you have played them for a long time and understand the nuances that made them playable back when they had a really bad codex. That said, the units that are considered weaker from their codex comprise of swooping hawks, howling banshees, pathfinders, and rangers. I am not sure about wraithlords, but I have not seen them hit the table a lot recently. Also most units on foot can have a difficult time against gunlines.

Off Topic for Mr. Morden:

Four wave-serpents in three thousand points? How dare he. Did you even read the army list that RancidHate posted? Please be reasonable Mr. Morden as that is anything -but- spam. Serpent spam at 3000 points, if you really want to see it, looks more like this:

Elites:

Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Fire Dragons

Troops:

Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-5x Dire Avengers

Heavy Support:

Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-3x Dark Reapers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-3x Dark Reapers
Wave Serpent: HoloFields, TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon
-3x Dark Reapers

This is only 2670. I've left 330 points for an HQ or two and a few upgrades. Have fun with that.

I disagree that eldar aren't highly competitive in low point games, their basic avengers can murder 2+ saving you points on dedicated TEQ units, in addition war walkers are just silly at that points level.

4, maybe 5 Serpents in -3000- points is not spam (Scorpions might need a ride). Inside of 3000 it's possible for 9 Serpents easy.

Sensitive, ain't ya? Some skin so thin and some egos so fragile in here, I could swear I'm dealing with cops...

I seen 5 Serpents in 1500 cuz' people wanna run DAVU Serpents ...that's a little spammy. I don't even object to the list really, unless they just a rule-lawyer, picky player.

I can safely speak for many of us when I say if I had a choice, I'd rather face a friendly player with a jerk list, than a jerk player with a fluffy list. Tabletop ain't console, it's more social. The opponent is as much a part of the fun as their list. I went up against 5th ed. GK with 2 Shunt-Jump Dreadknights with 5th ed. Foot Eldar. My guys got hammered worse than civilians by African warlords but, I still had a great time.

Of course someone comes in with the Necron Bakery and -still- wants to argue over 1/16 in or some crap, I'll pack up my models and walk off without a word.

Fun and firm Eldar list?

Hmmm pin up a dartboard with every unit unit in the dex on it except Wraithknights, Wave Serpents & Jetbikes for the most part.

Throw darts until 3000 pts.

There is nothing really terrible in your codex. Even the worst stuff is fairly firm, and its all very fun!

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

At 3000 points I'd be throwing in a Phoenix Lord or 2, just for flavour.
Drop in some HWP and you can deal with most things.

Shuriken weapons are AP2 on a roll of 6, so are nice against Terms.
Monofilament is AP1 on 6s, so those Warp Spiders will cause havoc.

Maybe even hold some Banshees back if you're expecting deep-strike or drop pods. Wraiths if you know they're coming.

Looks like a nice list, I can't quite cover that number of jetbikes, I can only do two units of nine plus a farseer and an autarch on the jetbikes.

How are Harlequins? I haven't ran any since 3rd edition.

I'm thinking spirtseer, warlocks in four units of wraithguard to cover my basic FOC, with hemlocks. Sprinkle with Harlequins?

Harlequins are fun for friendly games. The shadowseer makes them very stealthy from long range threats and they're deadly with all their melee tricks. I like to attach Maugen Ra to them. They give him an excellent platform for his mid-ranged weapon and melee abilities.

Nothing Rancid said was wrong. My personal preference would make some slight alterations:

Run the spiders as 4 units, not 2. 10 death spinner shots will take a vehicle on the rear armor just over half the time. When it doesn't, you can shoot the second unit. 5 are easier to deep strike than 10.

I don't like hawks. Personal preference.

I generally forgo melee units because of my eldar get into melee, I screwed up. If you have them, sure, why not at 3k, but don't waste money on fine cast if you can avoid it.

I don't like decking out HQ with a lot of relics. I stand by the math hammer that says mantletarch is a gambit, is neutered in 7th, and a seer is even worse at it. The number of multiwound models without Eternal warrior i would risk the shard against is just too small. The Fearless is a minor boost on an Ld 10 model. 40 points are just to steep a cost for me. i would rather use the points spent on relics for another seer. Give yourself the psychic dice to get invs off.

Couple notes -
Hawks are only on the "weaker" side when looking at the heavy lifting. As skirmishers and threats, they are top tier.
Wraithlords aren't broken. 3 wounds means they're killable (like Tides and Knights should be) with a 6" move and no Battle focus.

Maugan Ra in Harlies is kind of a waste. Harlies will want to run if they can't charge, and don't have Battle focus, so if the unit runs, none in it can shoot (all models must have Battle focus).

Harlies look fun. Don't expect too much of them without a Venom, though.

To Dessorag: All sensible.

At 3K I run Spiders maxed x2 just in case I need that high rate of fire. 20 S6 shots are good against more than just vehicle butts.

About Harlies? Nope. Too overpriced for what they do and how weak they can be, especially now that Veil of Tears requires psychic dice. Just. No.

Phoenix Lords. At 3K you have the points to soak up to try some interesting tricks like:

Baharroth + Spiders for Fearless jump -> shooting
Asurmen or Jain Zar + Scorpions for Fearless anti-horde CC

...I don't much care for PLs

Though at ANY point level my personal fav and, auto-include is:

Farseer in a D-Cannon artillery unit for that T7. Avatar for Fearless bubble + 2 shot Melta is ...adequate...

Eldar (Craftworld Sahal-Deran) 2500pts. 2000pts Fully Painted.

Dark Eldar (Kabal of the Slashed Eye) 2000pts. 1250pts Fully Painted.

Hmm had been thinking one dimensionally on the spiders, may have to try a 10 spot in an anti troop roll.

Harlies. The flayed ones of the eldar codex.

And the farseer/D-cannon, I don't know why this never occurred to me. I need to do this. Thanks.

3K? Interesting. Thats a BIG number to avoid the BIG no no's (or the ones you're trying to avoid anyways).

In the heavy slot the Artillery is pretty fun to play with and I would say NOt on the higher end of the power curve. Falcons are not hailed at ALL by ANYONE so using them might be a fun change of pace.

An Eldar Pathfinder list is also generally not the most feared, though against some forces it certainly has its uses. I did a blog on Illic Nightspear you may wish to scope out.

The Avatar as part of the force is pretty damn cool and yet not shenanigans. could synergize well with the not so bold Pathfinders.

Shining spears aren't often seen and are kinda like Eldar Rough riders only better.

Does that help?

3k list and "fun" doesnt really go together to me. Higher than 2k is usually when the dick-kicking starts coming in even between friends, because at that point the flood gates are open. Which is also the point when i would actually field a Stompa even though i can technically field it at 2k or less lol....

3k points...you pretty much either bring EVERYTHING or spam something. Kind hard to avoid it even in a very expensive army like grey knights.

Also...i gotta say it....Eldar + Fun in the same sentence....really? lol. probably the only race i regularly get a headache facing, even when im not against a cheese lister.

I fielded a stompa in a 3k game last weekend, but I did warn him I was doing so and the rest of the list was the IA8 dred mob so not competitive, still ate his army though.

I play a lot of higher point games as my meta likes a lot of LoW as we are older gamers with large collections built up over the years.

Eldar are a special snowflake though and rapidly scale out to nastiness, hence the harlies and I'm also thinking a couple of twenty man guardian squads to de power the list. I'm liking the idea of using lots of gun platforms, I've a fair few of the metal ones I haven't used in memory that could do with an outing.
