So if my understanding is correct with a unbound list you can literally run any units you want within the points cost? Im building a 1250 40k orks force at the moment for a FLGS league and im wanting to run 4 troop choices with 2 Hq's (normally 3 per hq), as well as some fast, a few heavy, etc.

Also the only thing you lose is being able to contest objectives? (as well as any army special rules, orks have Hammer of wrath). Please correct me if im wrong!

EDIT: Its not a competitive league, just all for fun! That's why im considering unbound

You can take any units you want as long as you follow the unit guidelines in the codex. You lose objective secured and you can't re roll your warlord trait in exchange for going unbound.

You CAN still contest though. Unless you are trying to contest vs a troop choice from a bound list.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Yes as long as I follow unit guidelines. Also, "objective secured"? That's not like losing tactical objectives that say "capture object 5" is it?

And since most people abhor the concept of unbound, have you even checked to see if the league is allowing unbound?

From what I gather, everything scores, but objective secured means that a troops choice from a bound list takes priority in contesting an objective, nothing more. Army rules you keep as well. Also, can't you take 4 troops and 2 HQ in a bound list anyway?

Yes you can.

To correct you though: objective secured is a benefit you get from currently only two detachments: the CAD (what we know as the FOC ) and the ally detachment. It is not something ALL troops in a bound army get - for example the ghaz supplement gives them hammer of wrath instead.

Everything scores, everything prevents scoring. Objective secured is an additional super scoring status - if you have OS you score even if a unit without OS is nearby .

I would advice you to read the Detachments and Formations.
2HQ and 4 Troops can easily be taken in a single Detachment, you don't need Unbound for that.

Each Detachment has its own special rules, so just see which you want.

You can also take units from any codex too. Kids hilarious.

Unbound is pretty crazy. Being able to take 8 blood thristers is pretty hard to counter with superior scoring.
