Been working on making a blob list I plan on entering a tournament with, just wanted to get some opinions. I know the first thing will be Illuminor Szeras, but hear me out. 20 man unit with defensive grenades and the 33% for each +1 bs/toughness. Can also seperate and enter the barge since I have a blob and they won't be in there unless i go under 10 warriors, and then can still shoot a str 8 ap 2 shoot at a nice target. Stalker is in there as support for the unit, if a vehicle/walker gets close, the melta gun will wreck it and the flamer can do some good dmg vs any horde coming while giving twinlinked to my blob if they shoot at the same threat.

Overall the unit has worked well for me for a res orb and a bit of support, pretty much killing watever i need it to and having the support of a few other good units.

HQ = 310
Necron Overlord (SW, MSS, WS) :
+ Catacomb Command Barge :
Illuminor Szeras :

Troops = 645
20x Warriors :
+ Lord (RO, MSS, WS) :
+ Ghost Ark :
5x Warriors :
+ Storm-Tek (LF) :
+ NightScythe :

Elite = 375
5x DeathMarks :
+ Despair-tek :
+ NightScythe :
Triarch Stalker :

Fast = 210
6x Wraiths (2x WC) :

Heavy = 270
Annihilation Barge :
Annihilation Barge :
Annihilation Barge :

Total = 1850

The elite units are a bit questionable.
I'd replace the Deathmarks by Warriors or Immortals.

Agreed, not enough Objective Secured units for an 1850 game.
Switch the Deathmarks out for another Storm-Scythe™.
Use the freed up points to give the Lord some Sempiternal Weave.
Consider dropping a Wraith (as well as the unnecessary Lightning Field) to give the Barge Lord a Phase Shifter.

Yeah, if you are going to do the Deathmark/despair tek drop, you really need x2 despair teks.

Well, you don't need to, it's just better to have double.
It's even perfectly fine to just field unaccompanied Deathmarks, deep struck in, if you're expecting high toughness units... but, again, they're best when accompanied by a Despair-tek or two, in a Night Scythe.

Im confused, in the necron book, it says for every court you can upgrade one cryptek to each type of harbinger. If i have one lord with on court, how can i have more then one storm tek or despair tek. Basically you cant have more then one type per court

Check the wording. You can have as many of each harbinger, but only one of each special gear (Lightning Field etc). You can also only put one from each court in each unit. So to have two Despairteks in a unit of Deathmarks (good but defo not essential) requires two overlords to create two royal courts. This can be good in higher point games.

Ahhh okay, i thought you could have only one of each harbinger per lord, their placement i was aware of. Def good at higher points. Im gonna take out the elites, what do you think, ten man immortal squad?

Personally I'd definitely keep the Deathmarks and Despairtek in the night scythe. It can cripple a Gravstar or if your opponent dumps some termies on you. And it can devastate a bike command squad. I've never played this unit where it hasn't earned it's points. Also, the Deathmarks are useful to have on the table against monstrous creatures. I'd drop half the wraiths, Szeras and maybe some other bits get another ten guys in a ghost ark. That gives you two more objective secure units. The Triarch stalker gels well for twin linking these big blobs and more anti-armour...

For Wraiths, it's either go hard or not at all (3 Wraiths are going to die too easily). It pains my heart to say it, but it might be better to just drop them all.
More ObjSec troops is definitely a requirement (I'd never take less than four in an 1850 competitive setting).

I like szeras though, I know hes not the best of the best but he brings 3 things to my army
1) a good stat increase on a 20 man squad
2) defensive grenades for that squad
3) str 8 ap 2 shot if i wanna roll him around in the ark for a little until i c a threat from melee coming

I'm not big on maxing out points on CCB, amazing unit but the tarpitting can be real and i'd rather not have that many points being wasted. If he is gonna die, hes gonna die and its gonna take a lot with or without phase shifter.

Doomsday ark i took off bc with all the terrain, its gonna b hard to position it where it doesnt have to move to shoot. Immobile = useless for 175 points.

Death and despair i love, def in for keeping that, can wipe a unit off the map cleanly.

Lastly, wraiths are 5+ or don't run honestly, they're good but you need a few to do some actualy damage.

I'm leaning towards getting some spyders and a bunch of scarabs to throw into a list, any of you guys tried them out yet?

Scarab Farm may not be the most competitive army build, but it can be a hell of as lot of fun.

But I feel the need to stress this again:
You do not have enough Objective Secured units.
Only taking two troop choices in a 1850 game is not a good idea.

how should i run my other units, 5 man squads in scythes or 9 man in arks with a lord, i just dont see it. I look more at killing potential then objective scoring I guess, i just figured for the points, the 20 man is worth it with an orb. Szeras is just a for fun when not competitive

Well, most common unit structures tend to be:
• 5 in a NS (often accompanied by a Storm-tek)
• 5 in a GA (often accompanied by a Destruct-tek)
• 15-20 in a blob (always accompanied by an Orb-Lord, sometimes with an Ark nearby)
• 7-10 on foot (often accompanied by a Veil-tek)
Mix and match as you see fit.

But if you're just playing for fun and don't care if you win or lose, yeah, I guess you don't really need to worry about troops, then.

I might do a ten man veil-tek with 10 man immortals, is that worth it or is a scythe better?

First of all:

What power level are you going to play?

Casual?
Competitive?
Semi-competitive?

I would say 80% competitive 20% fun. I dont want a stock list everyone runs and everyone has seen, but I dont want to be tabled every game i play.

Really wouldn't do that if you want some fun, I'd take a ghost ark of the warrior unit and spend its points on another 5 warriors fir the other squad and better heavy support, along with more specialist units

1500 pts
2000pts

Okay

Good news first: it's a good list! Some small tweaks I suggest:

You are light on Troops. If you want to keep roughly the same numbers, go for 2x15 Warriors and get a second Ghost Ark instead of a NS. Alternatively, take one unit of 20 Warriors and one unit of 10 Warriors, the latter enters a GA, the former stays outside and gets the Lord upgrade.

I would not go for Szeras, personally, as he is too expensive. But if you like him, get him. He can be useful and isn't terrible.

Do not take the Triarch Stalker. Your current list barely profits from it. Buy more Warriors or a Storm-Squad (Stormtek + NS) from the saved points.
