Hey guys started a vostroyan regiment, and have about 80 vostroyans so far. Maybe I'm having cold feet about the regiment I chose but do you guys think they look as military as say cadians or cstachans? I mean do they make you think military regiment when you look at them? Wondering what people think. Thanks !

They look like 40K-ed up cossacks, who were plenty militaristic. They don't fit the image of present-day soldiers, but for most of history armies didn't have a strictly practical or uniform appearance.

I don't think the look of the Vostroyans is wrong, at any rate. Personally I rather like them.

To answer your question:

Yes.

(They are the manliest regiment, with more mustaches per-capita than any other army, including Space Wolves, and that's saying something).

Take it easy.

lol

Voystroya is also very proud of having the highest GDM (gross domestic mustaches) of any planet (human or xeno) in the known dominion of man; Many scholars suggest that their golden age of facial hair products made the primary export of the squats obsolete and forced them into a rapid societal tailspin.

Given the direction 40k has been going, the Vostroyans should be the only regiment around.

Why do you say that?

They look good, I may add them to my homebrew mixes regiment I have started, so far cadian/catchan but they look nice :-)

I'd concur. The Vostroyans are amazing models. I'm sorely tempted to rebuild my IG army using Valhallans as rank and file troopers and Vostroyans as Veterans and Command Squad members.

They are without doubt the coolest looking regiment around, with a solid mixture of big mustaches, gas masks and bearskin-hats.

In my renegade guard I use catachans and cultists as regular infantrymen and conscripts, to represent the unsophisticated nature of these lowly recruits. Veterans are Cadians, as represented by their superior equipment, and Command Squads are "Vostroyans"*

*actually the descendants of a Vostroyan expedition that was stranded on the planet and then abandoned by the Empire, who became the society's ruling class and now lead the fight for independence as the Imperium tries to reclaim a world they once turned their back on.

P.S - Vostroyan Rough Rider plastics when??

Definitely military enough. Just a bit more gaudy than some of the earlier IG forces. Might look flashy even compared to Mordains, but definitely in line with the current GW trend toward adding B-L-I-N-G wherever possible!

In general I prefer the older simpler figures, and I already had an IG army, but I liked them so much I picked up a dozen or so to make a couple of command squads for my Cadians-with-gasmasks army.

Military - looking ?

what always comes to mind is a memoir I read , cannot remember the title , of a British WW I vet who in the memoir kept referring to , " The shrapnel - proof helmet ( until it is hit by shrapnel ) "

And in the Movie , " A Bridge too Far " British Paratroopers in camouflage enter a town , and the colonel of the regiment points to the camouflage and observes , " This was all very well in the country, but I doubt it's going to fool anyone in the towns ."

Military fashion always was a bit of an affectation, and STILL is.
