Two quick questions regarding the Doom Scythe's Death Ray:

1) It appears to be hull mounted, does that mean that the line drawn must be within the firing arc of the gun? Or could you fire the Death Ray behind the Doom Scythe?

2) Could you draw the line to hit enemy models that are in close combat? You're not actually rolling to hit the models in CC, but I'm still a little unsure.

Help would be much appreciated

1) The line is drawn between the two points, not from the gun itself. The first point, however, has to follow all regular targetting rules, i.e. LoS etc.

2) RAW, yes, you can, as you do not target any unit. RAI, probably not, and please ask your opponent BEFORE the game before doing so. Shooting in melee isn't good sportsmanship.

Ahh thank you Sigvatr! I was mostly concerned about question number two as that seems a little overpowered, you could be losing a combat but suddenly swing in your favour...thanks for clearing it up for me

No prob.

Just tell your opponent beforehand. It is very likely that it is not intended to be possible to shoot into combat.

I find it best with pick-up games to play to some widely known managed tournament format like BAO or ETC.

It should not be up to the opponent's intuition on the spot to judge whether a death ray can or cannot hit units in CC. Offhand it seems unfair but this is a functionality that, while theoretically potent, rarely comes up counting much in actual matches and so is best decided outside of the negotiation stage by some third party entity.

Shrewd opponents will always neogotiate to their advantage and I find that taking matters quickly OUT OF negotiation and into some standard is the best for fair and consistent play.
