Subject: D-99 or D-Ninety Nope?

Hello all.
So, recently, I got to considering. At some point I want a Guard army. But I definately don't want to paint a horde of expendable things that I will feel no attachment to. I mean, seriously, I have Termagants for that. Still.
So, reading through the revised IA4 something called out to me...Detachment D-99. Not only do they have a connection to my lovely Tyranids...but they're a small, pseudo elite force that I wouldn't feel too guilty about using or having.
But general impressions matter.
From what I've seen they have the following 'big' problems.
No Orders - this of course makes all those Vox Caster upgrades a hilarious joke of points (as they only function when using a Scanner in Short Range Lock - which I will probably never do. Seriously, reserve and infilitrate shenanigans just seems better.)
Steep cost for a minimal and situational upgrade - They cost a good chunk more for increased BS and PE: Tyranids...though to be honest with the Warlord traits, not so much an issue since you have the ability to swap out for pretty much any Xenos at the cost of, let's be honest, reduced charge and run distances - OK then, I wasn't planning on moving closer and assaulting anyhow).
But I want you, existing IG players to tell me what makes them look fluffy and nice.
I seriously dig the idea of leaning towards a D-99 force with an Inquisition allied detachment (going the whole hog and using Stormtrooper acolytes with priests and monkeys for Lok) and my thoughts go toward a 'ground' force of infiltrators and objective holders with Combat Dropped Sentinels and Taros and Vulture Squadrons. In fact, I really like the idea of Vulture Squadrons. I love the idea of twin linked punisher gatling cannon Vultures!

BS 4 is hardly a "minimal and situational upgrade". That's 33% more firepower compared to "normal" IG units.
|
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Talking about the preferred enemy aspect - also, I'm going by what I've seen others describe it as. Remember, I'm the guy who wants to do this list.

Gentle nudge as seems to be no response...do we honestly have no D99 players here at all?!
Welp, here goes.
Considering them as my next army - an Ordos Xenos Inquisition detachment in Chimeras as allies (to provide on the table firepower and help with the Combat Drop) and a D99 force.
Now, a few considerations...
Major Durra - put him in a D99 command squad or stick him with Lok?
Squad loadouts - I'm personally leaning toward the non-transport squads having Heavy Bolters and grenade launchers and the transported squads having Missile Launchers and Meltaguns.
Tauros - worth taking or no? I'm leaning toward the idea of 1 Lascannon Venator and 2 Grenade Launcher Tauros and going for the Outflank with them.
Rest of Fast Attack - Multimelta Sentinels I think.

Seems like a bit of an old thread, maybe dead, maybe not (?) but, moving right along, I was wondering if you ever started your D-99 army. I'm seriously considering starting an army of these guys. I would like to find out how you liked them. Painting 'em, Fielding 'em etc. etc.. Sorry if this is a dead thread by the way.

It is most certainly a dead thread. In future you're better off starting your own thread or sending a private message (the P.M. button with a white space marine helmet on it) than resurrecting an old thread like this. It is called thread necromancy (threadomancy) and frowned on. Thanks
