Subject: Would like some things confirmed from the new SW codex

So I only play SW but haven't played for a few months and I was uber excited to hear of the new codex.
My army was based around Logan with WGT and heroes, I'd like to know if I can play this like I used to: Logan, Arjac and Termies in Land Raider, Njal and other termies on foot, a pack of longfangs and a lone wolf.
Now I know that Njal has lost his unique effects and general coolness so I'll most likely be dropping him, however and I always debated between Njal and Bjorn so I can swap them easily. Plus Arjac is cheaper.
The disturbing thing is that I think Logan may have lost all his cool effects like making WG troops, Living Legend and High King.
Can anyone confirm or deny if he is still the awesome heroic leader?
If not I will be dropping 40k and playing Heresy exclusively :(

WG troops can't happen, but thanks to the unbound lists you can still play like you used to. You lose Objective Secured but that's not a real loss for this type of list.
Logan is also a Lord Of War and now has a great chariot that makes him even more dangerous.

Logan's even better than he used to be - and I love to tell the stories about how he singlehandedly pimp slapped a Bloodthirster, Daemon Prince and unit of Bloodletters to death in one battle.

What exactly is the benefit of new Logan and his chariot?
I know he got another wound but losing his unit and aoe buffs sucks if it's true.
Is the chariot actually a buff? Looks pretty flimsy (and stupid). He'll be focussed down quickly won't he?

The chariot gets him into cc faster, is pretty durable (AV12, 4++ and you can allocate AT hits to Logan, who'll tank them with EW), and gives him a bunch of bonus attacks on the charge. It's pretty damn good for 70 points!

Read the chariot rules - he can allocate AP3 or worst shots at himself for the 2+ save, he can allocate everything else at the chariot which will ignore everything under S6 and has a 4+ invul anyway and downgrades all pens to glances. In theory, it sounds pretty difficult to take down outside of assault.

The chariot is pretty durable. He can direct shooting attacks at his AV12 chariot(meaning immune to small arms) or send them to his TDA 2+/4++.
In assault, or blast weapons etc, where he can't direct the damage and it has to hit the chariot, it still gets a 4++ invuln, 3HP, and all pens are reduced to glances.
When he charges he gets 1d6 S6 ap- HoW hits, 4 S5 ap- i5 attacks with rending, AND then 6 S6 ap3 i5 attacks(which can be traded for 6 S8 ap2 i1attacks)
So...11-16 attacks basically at s5/6, some with rending, some with ap3 or 2.
And he moves 12 inches.
With that said, I think he's a little too expensive.

Logan is alrite...but I'd rather have 4 rune priests.
The chariot does look to make him faster and more durable, with insane number of attacks on the charge.
Njal is looking better to me, not worse. He is 65pts cheaper, his terminator armour is now a free upgrade, he has 3 wounds rather than a pathetic 2 (for a 250+ char...), and with the way the new psychic phase works you can basically use him as a witchfire beacon for warp points generated by RP's. His weapon is actually named now, rather than being a force lance or whatever it was previously. That seems better than a random power that may or may not benefit you each turn, depending on where you and the enemy are when you roll for it. Each to there own though. Certainly I had not taken him in a long time, now I will consider it.
Arjac is now cheaper (also a separate elites choice, not an upgrade), and you can get what are basically slightly weaker flying land raiders for him and his termies. Termies can also now deepstrike, so Njal doesn't need to footslog anywhere with those termies if you don't want him too.
|
Back in the day, we were epic Space Vikings with horns, and beer, and stupid mockney accents, and we didn't have any truck with this flying around like a pansy shizzle. We certainly didn't surround ourselves with mangy animals.
Now we're basically the Bestiality Chapter.
We also now ride chariots and employ daemonic dreadnoughts...also, we fly and teleport with abandon. With wolves. |

Nope. Get the Great Wolf's Household supplement. It includes an alternate detachment where the compulsory choices are elites, not troops (and you have eight of them to go at!). If you want a pure wolf guard army, you can now do so, and don't even need to take Logan Grimnar to do it.
Njal still has some of his unique effects. He gets the (so far) unique ability to reroll deny the witch tests, which go a long way to retaining his ability to stomp down even enemy blessings as well as witchfires. Plus his raven now gets to peck people to death.
Your list is entirely useable, give or take points swaps:
HQ: Njal Stormcaller
HQ: Possibly Arjac. Can't remember if he's now an HQ or an Upgrade Character
Elites: Wolf Guard Terminators (now a seperate and distinct thing to Wolf Guard)
Elites: Wolf Guard Terminators w/ Land Raider
Elites: Lone Wolf
Heavy Support: Long Fangs
Lord Of War: Logan Grimnar
The unique force organisation chart has other command benefits, If I remember - wolf guard must issue/accept challenges but get bonuses when you do.
Logan no longer has his +1 attack one-use, but has a better statline than he used to. Morkai is scarier, if I remember. Plus wolfguard in the force gain a stat boost from the command benefit "Kings Guard" that makes up for the boosts he used to give - and it applies to all his wolf guard now, not just the ones he personally hangs around with.
