A conundrum has happened at my LFGS regarding magical resistance stated in the rule book of page 72, the opening line reads

"A model with magic resistance has a bonus to its ward save when saving against spells."

Does this then only apply to the magic phase when "spells" are involved or does it apply to when your hit by a magically attacks from Flaming weapons, Warp Stones etc. in other phases of the game.

what does every one think on this subject?

Magic weapons/Flaming are their own special rules. They aren't spells. Magic weapons really only applies to Ethereal and some (very rare) items that work specifically against magic items. But it will say magic items. Likewise, flaming works vs. Regeneration and Flammable and for some (very rare) items and abilities that work specifically against Flaming.

If it doesn't say Magic Items/Weapons or Flaming Attacks, then it doesn't apply.

So been looking elsewhere online and the consensus is that magical resistance only applys to spells in the magic phase that cause wounds, does any one disagree?

Sadly you are correct.

The only thing that works otherwise is the Skillbanner a.k.a. Banner of the World Dragon

Aftermath can be calculated.

"A model with magic resistance has a bonus to its ward save when saving against spells."

There isn't anything in the sentence that is ambiguous.
