RULES FOR WARHAMMER 40K TOURNAMENT

This event will be capped at 24 players.

Rule Books:
The Warhammer 40,000 SEVENTH
Edition Rules will be used.

The following is a list of legal army choices:
Codex: Blood Angels
Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Grey Knights
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Orks
Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Space Wolves (New book = legal)
Codex: Tau Empire
Codex: Tyranids
Codex: Adepta Sororitas
Coedx: Inquisition

All **faction specific** supplements and dataslates will be allowed in this event unless otherwise noted. You will have to provide those rules to the TO upon submission of your army list, however.

MODELS AND POINTS:

1. Each player must bring a BATTLE-FORGED army consisting of 1500 points or fewer (1475 min), in accordance with these rules.

All models in your list must be considered "Infantry" of some kind (infantry, jump pack infantry, or jet pack infantry) with the following exception: One model may be a non-flyer "Vehicle," non-flying "Monstrous Creature" or a "Walker."

• Armies may be constructed from a maximum of 2 Detachments (as defined in the 40K BRB), no more than one of which may be a CAD.

• Allied Detachments may be selected from the same Faction as the Primary Detachment.

• Formations are permitted as one of the 2 detachments, but not Apocalypse or Fortification Formations.

• Detachments may be produced from a maximum of one Codex / Codex Supplement.

Selected units that alter Force Organization selections WILL affect all other detachments from the same codex. For example, a Space Marines Master of the Forge allows all detachments using Codex Space Marines to take Dreadnoughts, Venerable Dreadnoughts and Ironclad Dreadnoughts as Heavy Support choices as well as Elites choices.

2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model unless otherwise approved (see number 3). Your models do not need to be painted but they do need to be FULLY assembled.

3. Pictures of conversions or "counts as" models must be emailed to the Tournament Organizer. There is an expectation that your conversions or "counts as" models are "hobby quality." No "toys" will be allowed.

4. Psychic Powers - There will be no changes to the Psychic Phase or Psychic Powers for this event.

5. Forge World and Imperial Armor lists that are 40k Approved will be legal for this event. If you list contains FW or IA models, lists, or units, you MUST submit the rules and point cost for them when you send in your list.

At the event, players MUST have a hard copy of the Forge World / Imperial Armour rules if they wish to field that unit. NO EXCEPTIONS.

6. Lords of War will not be legal for this event.

7. Fortifications - Players fielding fortifications must provide a hard copy of the rules governing the chosen piece (from Stronghold Assault) and be familiar with the FAQ where necessary. The following Fortifications from Stronghold Assault will be legal for this event:

• Aegis Defense Line
• Imperial Bastion
• Skyshield Landing Platform
• Firestorm Redoubt
• Vengeance Weapons Battery

8. We will require that each player submits his army list to a Battleground Tournament Organizer on or before Monday, August 25th (roughly a week before the event). We ask that players email their lists to ChaseLaq@gmail.com as soon as they are finalized. We are going to do our best to check every list before the event begins.

9. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition, tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt, please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you will play a different opponent.

• Each round will last 2 hours. Players may begin playing as soon as they have finished deployment.

• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (based on the number of points they've scored) e.g., the team in first place will play the team in second place and so on. We will try our best not to pair players that come to the event together or regularly play each other in the first round. If a team receives a BYE they will be awarded max points.

• You will not play the same person twice.

• We will do our best to prevent players from playing on the same table twice.

• The pairings for each round will be posted as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to arrive at your table ready to play right away.

• Slow playing will NOT be tolerated. Players are expected to complete at least 4 rounds. If you suspect your opponent is slow playing PLEASE notify a Battleground staff member as soon as possible as we can not do anything about alleged slow play after the fact.

• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.

• Players will receive Results Sheets at the beginning of each round. Each results sheet must be filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once Results Sheets are completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the computer.

BATTLES:

The SEVENTH Edition Rulebook and all FAQs will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2 hours and players will have 10 minutes to deploy their armies. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; players will need to finish the round as quickly as possible.

What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least THREE copies of your army list
-Rulebooks and any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table

Store Credit Awards will be given out to:
Store credit is good for any product in the store BUT IS NOT good for subsequent events. It never expires and will be saved for you.

Best General
Second Best General
Third Best General (if turnout is large)

Players Choice

The Players Choice awards will go to the player that the others feel best reflects important aspects of the hobby. Every team will score their opponents on sportsmanship, theme, appearance, and overall awesomeness.

Best Appearance - Army (individual)

Smokin' Boots - You got crushed... and you deserve an award for your epic failure.

A team may only win one award. The Best Appearance awards may go to any one player participating in the event, regardless of their finish / other awards.

• A note on the Appearance award - We will award the individual who we feel has the best looking army. We will use a scoring rubric that looks at painting, basing, display boards, and various other "extras" to determine the winner.

Please post any questions or comments here. I'll do my best to get answers ASAP.

Interesting comp though it seems to favor some armies quite a bit to allow infantry only. I could understand wanting fewer vehicles and flying things, but limiting bikes, beasts, cavalry etc, means a lot to some armies and little to others.

For example as daemons it limits me to one elite choice (flamers), one, fast attack choice(furies), 1 heavy support if I spend my 1 exception on a soul grinder, or chariot. Limits my hq to essentially heralds without steeds.

Essentially making a summoning spam list the only viable army, where as say tau only get one riptide or vehicle, but can still spam out on broadsides, crisis teams etc.

Not that it matters much I guess, just seems like an odd set of limitations.

It's definitely odd. It's not intended to be a balanced set of rules, just something to do for fun while the GT types are away at NOVA.

Also:

It has been brought to my attention that the way I worded the "Infantry" requirement implies that you MUST take 1 non-infantry model. This is not intended.

The rule will be changed the rule to:

All models in your list must be considered "Infantry" of some kind (infantry, jump pack infantry, or jet pack infantry) with the following exception: One model may be a non-flyer "Vehicle," non-flying "Monstrous Creature" or a "Walker."

I understood that much, just seems like it is only fun for some people, with some armies. Like I said for instance as a daemon player I cannot take the following at all

Blood thirster
Lord of change
Steeds other than nurgle
Beasts of nurgle
Blood crushers
Nurglings
Plague drones
Fiends of slaanesh
Seekers
Flesh hounds
Screamers
More than one heavy support and or non-herald hq.

So essentially 2/3rds or more of the book is illegal. Now this is ok if it were true for other codifies as well....but it is not.

I guess if everyone coming plays an army that fits the rules that is cool, but many do not do so very well.

You're right and we're okay with that. Not every one of our events will appeal to every person / every army.

For instance, TANKSgiving doesn't include Demon armies or Tyranid armies at all. Our Monster Mash doesn't include every codex. They did an "Aces High" event last year at our Abington MA location that required people to bring a flyer. Last year on NOVA weekend we did a "Power Armor Only" event, etc. etc.

This is the Plainville MA locations 2nd event this month. We decided to keep the trend of goofy, may not play well with each book, relatively casual, different type of event thing going. The people that come out to these types of events seem to really love them and that's what's important to me / why we do them. This event won't fill up the room, but that's okay.

Interestingly enough this time around, I'm told that Demons can still potentially field a powerful list that involves summoning lots of things that are otherwise not allowed.

I have one Demon player who's voiced these same opinions tell me he might come down and play so he can field a bunch of demonettes and blood letters just to watch them die. Just for fun, you know?
