Hi I'm new to the game in general and would like a reasonably well rounded list for 1000 points of Tyranids I already have a Hive Tyrant (unmade) eight genestealers and a Broodlord and I would preferably like the inclusion of them however it is not a necessity. I need help as I haven't played a game of 40k competitively ever and so possess no knowledge of what units are good and useful for this particular edition and points level. Thanks in advance.

Well, a "Winged Dakka'rant" is the gold standard at this time...Tyrant, Wings, Brain Leeches x2, for 230 points. I strongly suggest adding Thorax Hive (Electro-bugs) as well for 240.

Troops: Broodlord, x7 Stealers 158
Troops: Termagants, x20 80
Troops: Termagants, x20

That runs to...558? So, 442 left for "the rest"

Heavys are a major strength in the current Codex, and Elites can be great "force multipliers". Most any Heavy choice will do you well.

A very simple way to add both, at a fairly low cost in dollars would be Zoanthrope, Venothrope, and Two Carnifex (you can get two in one box)

Elite: Zoey 50
Elite: Veno 45

Heavy: Dakkafexen, x2 (Carnifex, with x2 Brain Leeches) 300

That leaves 47 points....me? I would drop 1 Termagant, and add a second Zoey...many others would add a second Veno. You can also add a fourth Troop of x10 termagants, and have 7 left to spend...etc...

If you want to dive in, the Swarm Box is a very good value, it contains (if I remember correctly) 40 Termagants, 40 Hormagaunts, a Carnifex, 10 Gargoyles, and some Rippers...? I reserved 10 of the Hormagaunts, and converted them into "Devilgaunts" (Termagants armed with Devourers)

Good luck! And welcome to the Hive Mind!

That's awesome! Not only is that quite a substantial amount of bodies its also pretty cheap to actually buy. What's the general tactics behind this army? Would the Carnifexes need to be kept as a brood? Thanks again.

Well you can split them out or keep them together. I suggest you make a "Bugstar" of the Dakkafexen, with a Brood of Gaunts, and escort it with the Zoey, and the Veno. Then Infiltrate, or Outflnk the Broodlord. The Tyrant and Termagant Brood form the other pincer and you use the basic Nid stratagem. "Maximum Threat Overload" You give your foe too many targets, and then exploit any mistakes.

Once you're ready to move up in points, I suggest you look at adding a Formation to your 1000 pointer, that way you don't need to relearn how to fight your list.

If you buy the Swarm Box, you'll only have one Carnifex, but you can use other figs to fill out,( for example Hormies x15 is 75. Two Broods costs 150 That is the price of the second Dakkafex) and add Big Bugs later as you go.

Yeah good idea. Honestly the swarm box was already tempting me even though it takes me like 15 minutes to build a termagaunt what are warriors like these days? At £10.33 per model they better be special.

I personally rather like Warriors, but they are 'friendly game' units. They're best used to go in formations like Living Artillery or Bioblast Nodes - I've had luck running them (again, in friendly, non-comp games) as my only troops along with lots of big bugs.

If you use them, I advise running about 6 with a Barbed Strangler, and possibly deathspitters. but don't expect the world of them!

Well...they seldom impress, but Synapse is a critical resource for Nids... I like to run them these days as tiny (x3) Broods with a Cannon ...they camp out on Objectives and snipe with the Cannon. This gives them a function, and late game they can provide both Synapse, and fighting power. Hopefully the foe is in tatters, so 3 Warriors can take care of business. I like Deathspitters, and have had good luck with Rending Claws, but "vanilla" plus a Cannon will get the job done, most all the time.

I don't use large Broods of Warriors in the current era, I prefer Big Bugs for those jobs....(killing Marines, busting Vehicles, etc...) I suggest the Strangle Cannon for all uses, except Living Artillery. The special rules give "pinning" and re-rolls to blasts, so the Venom Cannon gains the most from being included. I've had a single "pin" turn around whole games, so I obsessively try to get as many rolls as I can.
