Bonkers Buggy Driver with Rockets
|
Kommandos are one of my favorite units fluff wise, and a very easy to get character into with conversions so I really want to use them in a game. I was wondering if it was more competitive to run them double Burna or double rokkit, or one of each. Is 2 side shots at a tank worth it? Or is 2 flame templates going to kill 20 more points of models?

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

It really depends on what you want them to face. If they face infantry, then burnas, but if tanks, then ROKKITS. One of each, well... It would, in the end, be less effective against troops and tanks.

I'm currently trying out two 5 man(ork) Kommando units with a nob and two big shootas and just infiltrate 'em. Cheap extra dakka. Put them in some ruins and your opponent has to either root them out or ignore them.
For outflanking I'd say burnaz. Two rokkits I fear aren't gonna do much with their lousy Bs and ap3. Maybe add Snikrot and PK boss if you want to hunt vehicles.

|
Slugga Choppa and Snikrot. You want one unit to come on somewhere and threaten a bunkered down unit of infantry with assault or a burna and troll overcommited enemy fire with a decent cover save.

I've used double burnas, but even then they haven't always done a whole lot. They may take out that one backfield unit, but once that's done, the enemy is aware and they get shot up pretty good.

burnas all the way, flamer and its basically a power weapon too.
rokkits miss too often to be worth it on kommandos imo
snikrot is boss,
as is the formation for kommandos in the ghazzy codex

rokkits or big shootas are dirt cheap and not really a bad idea...technically...but its not a shooting unit since you cant give it to all of them or have them swap for shootas. Burnas are expensive but they are most viable for these guys since thats 2 models swinging AP3 weapons in melee if you didnt fire it. I still find it to be a little overpriced since Power Swords cost less than that for a better model (yes i know it doesnt have the flamer option, but big deal when the flamer is weak as crap and you cant use both modes in the same turn).

Kommandos are cool because they can be a unit that is effective against a lot of infantry types. The mass attacks from the boyz are good against the light infantry. nob with pk is awesome against vehicles, and big MC and high toughness models. the burnas eat up MEQ and snikrot has high str re roll wounds.
I run them 11 boyz with their rippy knives + a nob +2 burnas + snikrot. comes in at 250 even.
alternatively to keep them cheapER just make then 10 boyz with nob and pk and snikrot. 200 points for a pretty damn effective unit.
To answer your question OP..I think burnas will give you more then the rokkits. The ap3 in combat is just to valuable.

Yellow words/abbreviations usually say what they are in the forum for future ref, but MEQ means Marines and Equivalent. Meaning T4 models with a 3+ save. GEQ are T3 with 4+ save, TEQ are T4 with 2+ save.
I actually might be off on the GEQ one now that i think about it.....but you get the idea

2 power axe nobs
2 power flaw nobs
48 more kommandos
basically the max of that formation. not really always effective but makes baneblades chase after it
